To the great Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav Yosef (note 1: Rav Y. Mendelcorn, of Jerusalem),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 22 Marcheshvan*. According to what you write, you were told that the Alter Rebbe* mentions the Tanya* in his books and cites some passages from it. In fact, one finds still other citations, as specified by the index of books and names printed at the end of the Tanya*, that of the Torah Or*, and the one that will soon appear for the Likkutei Torah*. You will also see there that certain passages of the Tanya* also refer to earlier chapters. Here too, you will consult the index.

You write to me about all of this, and I hope, how much more so, that you will participate in the Chassidic* gatherings (farbrengens*) organized for the 10th and 19th of Kislev* — dates of the liberation of the Alter Rebbe* and subsequently of his son and successor, the Mitteler Rebbe*. You also know that, according to a well-known saying (note 2: see on this subject letters no. 4750, 5813, 5921, and 5941), a leaf fell from heaven in order to proclaim the preeminent role of a Chassidic* gathering.

במענה למכתבו מכ"ב מ"ח, בו כותב אשר אמרו לו שרבנו הזקן מזכיר בספריו את הספר התניא, ומציין לאיזהו מקומן בזה.

הנה כו"כ עוד מקומות ישנם כנ"ל וכמצוין במפתח הספרים והשמות שנדפס בסוף ספר התניא, תורה אור, ומוכן לדפוס גם בלקו"ת, ועיין שם אשר בתניא עצמו מצויין בכ"מ לפרקים הקודמים וגם בשם, עיי"ש במפתח.

תקותי שכיון שכותב ע"ד הנ"ל הנה מכש"כ שמשתתף בהתועדות אנ"ש הנערכות בימי יו"ד י"ט כסלו ימי הגאולה של אדמו"ר הזקן ובנו מ"מ אדמו"ר האמצעי, וכבר ידוע פתגם רבנו הזקן אודות הפתקא שמשמיא נחית בגודל ענין דהתועדות חסידית.
