Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of Rosh Chodesh* Kislev*. You ask me about participation in a celebration (note 2: during the year of mourning). This depends on several factors — the manner in which the celebration takes place and the way one participates in it. You will therefore present the situation to a Rav* who decides Halachah* in your community, and he will guide you.

You surely know what the books say about the manner in which children can bring satisfaction to the soul of their parents. One of the essential points is the spreading of the Torah* and its Mitzvos*, as the Zohar* also states, volume 3, at the end of Parshas Bechukosai*. No doubt you also know the extent to which your father, may he rest in peace, gave of himself for Chassidus* in general and for its dissemination in particular. Consequently, I hope that to the fullest extent possible, you endeavor to do the same, especially during the year of mourning. Your merit and your responsibility in this matter are all the greater since, in your situation, you can influence many people. For nothing stands in the way of the will.

You surely know of the three daily studies covering the Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*, which are well known. These were transmitted to us by my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, and they concern every person. They have a beneficial effect in various domains. At the very least, you will adopt them in the future.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מר"ח כסלו, ובשאלתו בהנוגע להשתתף במסיבה וכו'.

כיון שתלוי זה בכמה פרטים (אופני המסיבה ואופני ההשתתפות) יציע הדברים לפני מורה הוראה שבסביבתו, והוא יורהו.

בודאי ידוע לו ע"ד המובא בספרים בנוגע אופני קורת רוח שעל הבנים לגרום לנשמת אבותיהם, שמהעיקרים בזה, העסק בהפצת תורה ומצותי' (ולהעיר ג"כ מזהר ח"ג סוף פרשת בחקותי) ובודאי ידוע לו עד כמה מסר נפשו אביו ע"ה על עניני חסידות בכלל ולהפצתה ביחוד, שלכן תקותי שככל האפשרי משתדל גם הוא בזה בכלל ובפרט בשנת האבלות והרי זכותו (וגם אחריותו) בזה גדולים פי כמה, כיון שמצבו הוא שיכול להשפיע על חוג מסוים, ובפרט על כתתו, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון,

בטח יודע משלשת השיעורים בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים אשר שמענו מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע שהם שוים לכל נפש וסגולה לכו"כ ענינים, ועכ"פ ישמור אותם מכאן ולהבא.
