To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, devotes himself to communal needs, has generous ways, and is of illustrious lineage, Rav Sh. Z. (note 1: Shneur Zalman Shazar; see on his subject letters no. 5375, 5911, 6011, and 6025),

Greetings and blessings,

I have been informed that you are undergoing medical examinations. I have not obtained details on this subject, but I hope that all is well, in the proper manner.

To pass from one point to another, it is a fact that within our people — a propitious nation — especially according to the expression of the Holy Tongue (Lashon HaKodesh*), concerns that are apparently purely physical remain connected to the soul. Thus, our Sages* speak of an "examination of conscience." Moreover, is anything more physical than food? Yet here too, it is said that "the righteous one eats to satisfy his soul."

It goes without saying that this year as well, I hope, you will surely visit, as is your custom, Kfar Chabad* on the luminous day of the 19th of Kislev*, which is, in the expression of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, the Rosh Hashanah* of the study of Chassidus* and of Chassidic* ways. The Alter Rebbe* emphasizes that the term is Rosh Hashanah* — "head" and not "beginning" of the year. Indeed, the head carries within it the vitality of all the limbs. Now, the same applies to the dates of the year and the month, and it is also the case for the Rosh Hashanah* of Chassidus*, which infuses Chassidic* vitality into all the days of the year. May Hashem grant that the motivation of this Rosh Hashanah*, at Kfar Chabad*, manifest itself through enthusiasm and light throughout the entire year.

I have asked guests from the Holy Land who are here and have not yet returned home (note 2: presumably following the festivals of Tishrei*) to convey my greetings to you orally. It is an established fact that an emissary fulfills the mission entrusted to him.

I await your good tidings concerning all of this. I extend my respects, my blessing, and thank you very much for your particularly precious gift — a manuscript of the Siddur* of the Ari Zal* (note 3: see on this subject letter no. 5767) — which duly reached me and which I was able to touch, in accordance with the explanation of the Likkutei Torah*, at the beginning of Parshas Shemini* (note 4: highlighting the relationship between lehagya, to reach, and lingoa, to touch).

שלום וברכה!

הודיעו לי אשר כ' שי' עומד בבדיקות רפואיות, ואע"פ שאין לי פרטים בזה. אבל תקותי שהכל שלום ובסדר.

ומענין לענין, הרי דבר הוא אשר אצל עמנו עם סגולה ובפרט בלשון הקדש, הנה אפילו ענינים אשר לכאורה עניני הגוף הם, מקשרים אותם עם הנפש, וכידוע לשון חכמינו ז"ל בדק נפשו, והיש לך ענין גופני יותר מאכילה וגם בזה הלשון - צדיק אוכל לשובע נפשו.

בטח למותר לכתוב לכ' אשר תקותי חזקה שגם השתא, כדרכו ומנהגו הטוב, יבקר בכפר חב"ד ביום הבהיר י"ט כסלו, שהוא כבטוי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר "ראש השנה ללימוד החסידות ודרכי החסידות". וידוע ביאור כ"ק אדהז"ק בדיוק הל' "ראש" ולא "תחילה", שהראש כולל חיות כל האברים, שכן הוא בהנוגע לתקופת השנה והחודש, ועל דרך זה ראש השנה דחסידות ממשיך חיות חסידותי בכל ימות השנה. ויהי רצון אשר ההתעוררות דרה"ש זה בכפר חב"ד תמשיך התעוררות חום ואור במשך כל השנה כולה.

בקשתי מבין האורחים שהיו כאן מאה"ק ת"ו ועלו חזרה למסור לכ' פ"ש ממני בעל פה, וחזקה על שליח שעושה שליחותו.

ואחכה לבשורות טובות בכהנ"ל.
