To the Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Chaim Shalom (note 1: Rav C. S. Segal, of Jerusalem; see on his subject letter no. 4565),
Greetings and blessings,
After a particularly long interruption, I received your letter (note 2: announcing "the loss of our father, crown of our head, the Rav* and Chassid*, of illustrious lineage, Rabbi Shlomo Yehudah HaLevi") of 18 Marcheshvan*.
May Hashem grant that henceforth you and yours know no more suffering and grief, Heaven forbid. And may the promise of the double consolation be fulfilled (note 3: stated concerning Shabbos Nachamu*, following the mourning of Tisha B'Av*), in accordance with the explanation given of the expression "double for wisdom," found in several Chassidic* texts. Indeed, this is not merely a double measure in quantity, but represents much more than that, and also introduces a qualitative change, in the direction of good.
This is what our Sages* indicate, in the Midrash Shemos Rabbah*, at Parshas Ki Sisa*, on this verse (note 4: The Rebbe notes at the bottom of the page: "At the beginning of chapter 46."). And this double consolation, on an individual level, will bring about, in our days and very soon, the double consolation of all, according to Iggeres HaKodesh*, chapter 4, with the imminent coming of our righteous Moshiach*.

ויה"ר שמכאן ולהבא לא ידעו לא הוא ולא כל בני המשפחה שי' מכל ענין של צער ועגמ"נ ח"ו, ויקוים היעוד דנחמה בכפלים, וע"פ המבואר בכ"מ בדא"ח בהענין דכפלים לתושי' הרי אינו רק שתי פעמים בכמות כ"א הרבה יותר מזה ובשינוי למעליותא גם באיכות, וכמובן גם ממרז"ל שמ"ר פ' כי' תשא על הפסוק הנ"ל*, ומהענין של דנחמו נחמו של הפרט, ובימינו בקרוב ממש נזכה לנחמו נחמו של הכלל (ע"ד המבואר באגה"ק סי' ד') בביאת משיח צדקנו בקרוב.
