Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 11 Cheshvan*, in which you describe the state of health of your daughter, to whom Hashem will grant long life. Indeed, her hearing is impaired and, partially, her speech. Her mother sees in this an intervention of demons.

She must completely remove this explanation from her mind. On the contrary, you will have the mezuzos* of your home checked, as well as your tefillin*, to ensure that they are all kosher*, in accordance with the Halachah*. If she wishes to adopt the practice of virtuous Jewish women, she will set aside tzedakah* before lighting the candles on the eve of the holy Shabbos* and the festivals. You will also consult a doctor who specializes in this field, who will examine not only her ear but also her nervous condition. Everyone will intensify their commitment to Torah* and mitzvos*. In this way, you will multiply the blessings of Hashem in all your needs, in general, and regarding your daughter in particular.

במענה למכתבו מיום י"א חשון, בו כותב אודות מצב בריאות בתו... שתליט"א בהנוגע לחוש השמיעה וקצת גם בהנוגע לדבורה, ואמה אומרת אפשר זה מהמזיקין וכו'.

הנה יסיח דעתו לגמרי מסברא זו; כי אם יבדקו את המזוזות בדירתם וכן את התפילין שלו, שיהיו כשרים כדין, והאם תנהג במנהג בנות ישראל הכשרות, להפריש לצדקה קודם הדלקת הנרות בכל ערב שבת קדש וערב יום טוב; וישאלו דעת רופא מומחה במקצוע שיבדוק לא רק את האזן אלא גם מצב הניערווין שלה; וזה שיוסיפו כולם בעניני תורה ומצות יתוסף על ידי זה בברכות השי"ת בהמצטרך להם בכלל וביחוד בהנוגע לבתם תחי'.
