To the Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Yaakov Eliezer (note 1: Rav Y. E. Herzog, of Melbourne, Australia; see on his subject letter no. 5697),

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of 26 Tishrei*, which is particularly concise, although it refers only to the Chassidic* gathering (farbrengen*) of Simchas Torah* and Shemini Atzeres*. Now, during the weeks that have just elapsed, numerous actions have surely been undertaken for Judaism, for the spreading of the wellsprings* (note 2: of Chassidus*) in general, and for the Chabad* institutions of Australia in particular. I am surprised not to have tidings of all this, neither from you nor from the other Chassidim*. But perhaps I will still receive them, although several weeks have already passed.

May Hashem grant that we immediately obtain the good tidings of the broadening and development of your activities, quantitatively and qualitatively. The reward of those who devote themselves to this, or make efforts in this direction, is specified by various texts. Of course, the first and most fundamental of these activities is the multiplication of the number of students (note 3: the Rebbe employs this term in both the masculine and feminine) participating in Chabad* activities and classes. Experience demonstrates that every Jew possesses a domain — or, more precisely, several domains — that are alive within him. When one draws him into the four cubits of the fear of Hashem through this domain, one mitzvah* draws another, and from time to time he comes closer and even adopts several other positive accomplishments. This is self-evident.

With my blessing to convey good tidings, of a visible and tangible good, in communal activities and also in what concerns you personally,

מאשרים קבלת מכתבו מכ"ו תשרי, בו כותב בקיצור הכי נמרץ, וגם זה רק בהנוגע להתועדות בשמחה תורה ושמע"צ, אף שבודאי כמה פעולות היו במשך שבועות שעברו בעניני יהדות והפצת המעיינות בכלל ובהנוגע למוסדות חב"ד אשר באוסטראליא בפרט, ולפלא שאין ידיעות עדיין בזה לא ממנו ולא משאר אנ"ש ואפשר עוד תתקבלנה, אף שעברו כמה שבועות מאז.

ויה"ר שתכה"י תהיינה בשו"ט מהרחבת הפעולות והגדלתן הן בכמות והן באיכות ושרכם של כל העוסקים ומשתדלים בזה מבואר הוא בכו"כ מקומות, ומובן שבראש הפעולות ויסודן הוא להגדיל מספר התלמידים-ות עסקנים בעניני חב"ד המשתתפים בשיעורים וכו', והרי רואים במוחש שכ"א מישראל יש למצוא בו נקודה, יותר נכון, כמה נקודות בעניני תומ"צ אשר ער הוא בו גם בגלוי, וכשממשיכים אותו לד' אמות של יראת שמים ע"ד ענין זה, הנה מצוה גוררת מצוה ומזמן לזמן מתקרב יותר, ונעשה שייך בעוד כמה ענינים, וק"ל.

בברכה לבשו"ט בטוב הנראה והנגלה בענינים הכללים וגם בעניניו הפרטים.
