Greetings and blessings,
After a particularly long interruption, I received your letter of the 27th of Tishrei*, in which I did not find a reason and explanation justifying such a long lapse in your correspondence during all this time. I therefore suspect that throughout this period, you published nothing to spread the wellsprings (note: of Chassidus*) outward. For if this had been the case, you would have sent here a press clipping, as you used to do before. Similarly, you must not have participated in Chassidic* gatherings and, more generally, in what concerns the Chassidim*. Perhaps you will clarify all of this in your next letter.
I hope, as you say in your letter, that your marriage will be celebrated, at a good and fruitful time, no later than the month of Kislev* that is approaching. You also refer to the expenses occasioned by a large wedding. I do not understand why you must incur great expenses precisely to celebrate a large wedding. Indeed, its grandeur must be qualitative — in particular, according to the interpretation our Sages* give of the expression "a great feast" in Midrash Bereishis Rabbah*, chapter 43: "The Great One of the worlds was present."
It must therefore be evident, in everything concerning the marriage and especially for the couple, in their preparations and in their resolutions for the future, that the Great One of the worlds signifies His agreement. Indeed, if they merit it, the Shechinah* will reside among them. Of course, this is in no way connected to material expenditures, except for contributions to tzedakah*. But in reality, these are not an expense, for the Holy One, blessed be He, says: "Tithe, in order to become wealthy," and: "Please, put Me to the test in this matter." On the other hand, what the world calls "grand" and what Chassidus* describes as "contingencies of the world," with much fanfare, is of no interest, for various reasons.
Just as one plans the material aspect of things (note: of the marriage), I have good hope that you are preparing, a fortiori, the spiritual dimension (note: of the marriage). Indeed, the members of the Great Assembly describe marriage as an eternal edifice. You mention in your letter a material dwelling that you will inhabit for some time. Now, various points need to be settled concerning it. How much more so for an edifice intended to last several decades and even one's entire life on this earth. All the more so for an eternal edifice, for the soul is immutable. This is self-evident.
Awaiting your good news concerning all of this,
