Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter from the end of Tishrei*, in which you tell me that you wish to continue your studies at the Yeshivah*, and more precisely at the Yeshivah* Chabad* of Lod, since you have already previously attended a Yeshivah* Chabad*. However, you are now twenty-two years old.

Your plan is particularly judicious. At your age, indeed, you are living years of preparation and strengthening for the entire duration of your life. Now, the happiness of a Jew — not only moral, but also physical — and the profound dimension of his being depend on the Torah* and the mitzvos*, are based upon them. One draws closer to all of this and, with time, one comes to know and feel it, through the study of Chassidus* and the adoption of its practices.

Thus, the preparation does indeed have value, which is even particularly important. There is therefore not merely, Heaven forbid, time that is not well used, or not as it should be, to use your expression at the end of your letter. For nothing can withstand the will. If you study the Torah* with tenacity, you will attain success, and this will assist you throughout your life, materially and spiritually.

במענה למכתבו משילהי תשרי, בו כותב אשר רוצה הוא להכנס ללמוד בישיבה, ובישיבת חב"ד (בהיות לפני זמן למד בישיבת חב"ד) בלוד, אלא שגילו כעת הוא כ"ב שנה.

ונכונה סברתו למאד מאד, כי הרי השנים בגילו הם שנות ההכנה והיסוד למשך כל ימי חיי האדם, ובאיש הישראלי הרי אשרו לא רק הרוחני אלא גם הגשמי תלוי ומיוסד בהתורה והמצוה ובהפנימיות שלהם אשר לזה מתקרבים ובמשך הזמן גם מכירים ומרגישים על ידי לימוד תורת החסידות והליכה בהדרכותי', שמזה מובן שככל ענין של הכנה הרי זהו ריוח בענין וריוח חשוב במאד, ולא ח"ו זמן שלא ניצלו אותו (כדבעי או עכ"פ במילואו), וכמו שמסיים במכתבו, אין דבר העומד בפני הרצון, כשילמוד במסירה ונתינה בודאי שיצליח בזה וגם יעזור לזה במשך כל ימי חייו בענינים הרוחנים ובענינים הגשמים.
