Greetings and blessings,

I read with pleasure your letter of the 27th of Tishrei*, in which you report the good decision you have made with your associates regarding tzedakah*. Hashem says: "Please, put Me to the test in this matter," and there is indeed here a request on His part. As this verse specifies beforehand: "Bring all the tithes. And I will bestow upon you a blessing, until you can no longer say: this is enough."

Certainly, the Halachah* rules that: "You shall not put Hashem to the test." However, tzedakah* is an exception to this principle, and concerning it, Hashem Himself asks to be put to the test. One can therefore have firm conviction that the Holy One, blessed be He, will keep His promise in this domain. In this way, you will be able to announce to me good news concerning the sale of the houses. You yourself and your associates will keep your commitment, with joy and enthusiasm.
