Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, in which you describe briefly what happened and, in particular, the recent failure of a business.

It is quite clear that one must not be discouraged, Heaven forbid, particularly in our generation, since we are like "firebrands rescued from the fire" (note: following the massacres of the Second World War), through evident miracles accomplished by Hashem. Thus, each person can strengthen his conviction in the absolute truth — that everything is subject to the Will of Hashem. Nevertheless, the Creator of the world desires that one follow the ways of nature. In this way, He grants His blessing and His success, transcending the ways of this nature, as it is stated: "Hashem your Elokim* will bless you in all that you do." In my opinion, you must therefore adopt a commercial activity or a position that will allow you to use your capacities and your knowledge. You will do all of this while strengthening your trust in Hashem.

In light of what has just been said, it is clear that this is merely a vessel (note: work is a vessel for the divine blessing, which enables one to obtain one's livelihood). You must therefore intensify your practice of the Torah* and the mitzvos*. In this way, Hashem, Who gives the Torah* and the mitzvos*, will grant you His blessings in all your needs. In particular, you will make the decision to set aside a little more than a tenth of your earnings for tzedakah*. It would be good to also give a certain amount in advance, on the profits that Hashem will enable you to realize soon. This will demonstrate your trust in the One Who provides sustenance for all. As various texts explain, one of the auspicious times to give tzedakah*, every weekday, is before the morning prayer.

You surely know of the three studies that concern everyone, established by my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us. They concern the Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*, and are well known. At the very least, you will adopt them in the future.

במענה למכתבו, בו כותב ראשי פרקים מאשר עבר עליו ובעיקר לאחרונה מפשיטת הרגל של אחת הפירמעס וכו'

והנה פשוט אשר אין כל מקום ליאוש ח"ו ובפרט לאנשי דורנו זה אשר נשארנו כאודים מוצלים מאש ע"י נסי השי"ת בגלוי ממש, שעי"ז נתחזקה בשכלו של כל אחד יותר וביותר האמת המוחלטות אשר ממנו - השי"ת - לא יבצר כל דבר, אלא שרצה בורא העולם שיעשו כלים בדרך הטבע, ואז שולח ברכתו והצלחתו גם למעלה מדרך הטבע, וכמה שכתוב וברכך ה' אלקיך בכל אשר תעשה, אשר עפי"ז עצתי שישתדל בעניני מסחר או משרה דוקא באם תהי' בסוג שיכול לנצל כשרונותיו או ידיעותיו, ויעשה זה מתוך חוזק הבטחון,

וכיון שעפ"י הנ"ל אין זה אלא כלי מובן שעליו להוסיף בעניני תורה ומצות, ויוסיף השי"ת נותן התורה והמצוה בברכותיו בהמצטרך לו, ובזה גם החלטתו להפריש יותר מעט ממעשר מהרוחים שלו לצדקה, ומה טוב שיתן מיד איזה סכום ע"ח הרווחים שימציא לו השי"ת בקרוב והרי זה משמש הוכחה על בטחונו בהזן ומפרנס לכל.

ע"פ המבואר בכ"מ, מזמנים המסוגלים לנתינת צדקה הוא בכל יום חול לפני תפלת הבקר.

בטח יודע משלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר
