Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter, with the requests for blessings it contained, which will be read, at an auspicious time, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us.
I am surprised that you write me only a few words concerning your marriage, whereas during it the foundation of an eternal edifice is laid, it is an auspicious moment, and one is then inspired to the practice of the Torah* and the mitzvos*, in accordance with Jewish custom. Words of Torah* and Chassidus* are spoken at such occasions. I presume that you did indeed recite Chassidus* (note: the custom of Chassidim* is to recite, at a marriage, the Chassidic discourse that the Frierdiker Rebbe* delivered at the Rebbe's* wedding) on that occasion, and that you specified the lesson to be derived from it. Nevertheless, this presumption is diminished by a negative aspect, for some have the practice of interrupting the recitation in the middle (note: so that it is not recited in its entirety; see, on this subject, Igros Kodesh, letter no. 5872), and to my great surprise, one finds even Chassidim* who do this. Certainly, it is said that "when one goes to a city, one adopts its practices." There is, however, in this matter, an instruction from my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, requesting that one complete the recitation, then begin it a second time and interrupt it then.
You speak to me of someone who does not know how to associate letters. On this matter, one should consult a specialist doctor. Very often, such people are normally developed in various areas, sometimes even above average. When one provides them with the means to make full use of their actual capabilities, those which are not currently functioning normally develop gradually. No doubt, this man gives a few coins to tzedakah* every day, before the morning prayer.
With my blessing that you be definitively inscribed for a good year,
