To the young man Yechiel Michel (note: Y. M. Katz of Jerusalem),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 13 Elul, conveying good news — the establishment of a Chassidus* class in the Chofetz Chaim* synagogue. May Hashem grant that one not be content with the actions that have been taken until now, but that they be greatly multiplied — all the more so since this moment is propitious for inspiration, during these days of Selichos* and these Days of Awe, of which it is said: "Seek Hashem when He can be found. Call upon Him when He is near."

Of course, all of this does not exempt those who carry out this activity from studying the Torah* with enthusiasm and ardor (note: the recipient of this letter is a yeshivah student), from fulfilling the mitzvos* in the best possible way, in an ever-increasing manner, ascending in the domain of holiness. And nothing withstands determination. May Hashem grant that in this, too, you convey good news to me — news that will be sincere. And you will influence your friends to do the same.

במענה על מכתבו מי"ג אלול מבשר טוב מפתיחת שיעור בדא"ח בביהכ"נ חפץ חיים, ויהי רצון שלא יסתפקו בהפעולות דעת עתה, ויוסיפו עליהם כהנה וכהנה ובפרט עתה דעת התעוררות הוא ימי הסליחות והימים נוראים עליהם נאמר דרשו ה' בהמצאו קראוהו בהיותו קרוב, ומובן ופשוט שאין הנ"ל פוטר את המתעסקים בזה מהתמדה ושקידה בלימוד התורה וקיום המצות בהידור וכו' ובאופן דמוסיף והולך ומעלין בקדש ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון, ויהי רצון שגם בזה יבשר טוב אליבא דאמת וגם על חבריו ישפיע בכגון דא.
