To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of good conduct and many accomplishments, Rav Binyamin Zeev (note: Rav B. Z. Weiss of Zurich),

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter, whose delivery was somewhat delayed, containing a request for a blessing for this person, to whom Hashem will grant long life. In accordance with your request, I will mention his name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, as you write. We are in Elul*, the month of mercy, and according to the well-known parable of the Alter Rebbe*, which appears in his Likkutei Torah*, Parshas Re'eh, p. 32b, the King is in the field, welcomes everyone with benevolence, and shows a smiling countenance to all. Thus will the immense mercy of the King, King of kings, the Holy One, blessed be He, be increased for all the needs of the House of Israel, as well as for each man and woman in particular, among all the ailing Jews.

I have heard much about you, in particular from the young emissaries (note: yeshivah students near the Rebbe who visit communities during the summer months) who visited your holy community last year. It is certain that an emissary fulfills the mission entrusted to him, and every Jew is the emissary of the Creator, blessed be He, charged with illuminating the darkness of the world. Hashem demands that one know elevation in the domain of holiness, and since then (note: since the visit of these young men), you have surely increased your sacred activities within your community, in every place where you exert your influence — and especially among the youth. On the one hand, their personality is not yet fully formed and can therefore evolve more easily than that of one who has already lived the greater part of his life. On the other hand, they still have their future ahead of them and are called, in particular, to establish a Jewish home. Every positive evolution on their part is therefore multiplied many times over, in the home they will build upon reaching adulthood.

On the occasion of the new year, which approaches for us and for all of Israel, for good and for blessing, I hereby send you and all your family my blessing to be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו - שנתאחר קצת דרך הילוכו - פ"נ עבור... שליט"א.

וכבקשתו אזכירו בעת רצון על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע מתאים לתוכן כתבו, ויהי רצון אשר כיון שנמצאים אנו בחדש אלול הוא חדש הרחמים, אשר כמשל הידוע של רבנו הזקן בספרו לקוטי תורה (פ' ראה דף לב, ב) המלך נמצא בשדה ומקבל את כל העם בספ"י ומראה פנים שוחקות לכולם וכו' יתוסף ברחמיו המרובים של ממה"מ הקב"ה, לכל צרכי עמו בית ישראל ולכל אחד ואחת מהם והנ"ל בתוך שאר חולי ישראל.

רבות שמעתי ע"ד כת"ר שי' וכן מהאברכים השלוחים שביקרו בקהלתו בקדש אשתקד, וכיון שחזקה שליח עושה שליחותו הוא כל אחד מישראל שהוא שלוחו של הבורא ברוך הוא להאיר חשכת העולם ומתאים להוראתו דמעלין בקדש, בטח מאז הוסיף והעלה בפעולתו בקדש בקהלתו ובכל מקום שידו מגעת וביחוד בתוככי הנוער, שמחד גיסא עדיין לא נגמרה צורתו בכל התוקף ועלול לשינוים יותר מזה שעברו רוב שנותיו וכו' ומאידך גיסא כל עתידו עדיין לפניו ובזה בנין בית בישראל, שלכן כל שינוי לטוב בו, נכפל כמה פעמים ככה בביתו אשר יבנה בגדלו.

ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו ולכל אשר לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.
