Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter and the request for a blessing it contained, which will be read at an auspicious time at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. You briefly describe how you experienced this year. You also speak of your health problems concerning your skin. If, as you seem to indicate in your letter, you choose a cream and a treatment yourself, after asking your friends, it is obvious that your way of proceeding is not the right one. Elementary logic establishes, and our Torah* emphasizes, that "the physician has been authorized to heal." There are surely specialists in this field near your home. You will consult them now and adhere to their prescriptions. Likewise, you say that you consulted a man who is described as an expert. It is obvious that this is not appropriate either. Consequently, as you yourself contemplate at the end of your letter, you will consult a dermatologist.

May Hashem grant that you intensify your practice of the Torah* and the mitzvos*, with submission and self-sacrifice — but not in the manner you describe, asserting that if Hashem helps you, then you will act. Indeed, first and foremost, a Jew acts concretely — all the more so since this action, by itself, has inestimable value, and the Mishnah* specifies that "the reward of the mitzvah* is the mitzvah* itself." May Hashem grant that you give me good news of your state of health — not only physical but also spiritual. You are surely participating in the activities of the Chabad* youth association, without, of course, doing so at the expense of your study time.

במענה על מכתבו עם הפ"נ המוסגר בו, שיקרא בעת רצון על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, בו כותב ראשי פרקים מאשר עבר עליו במשך שנה זו וכן אודות מצב בריאותו בהנוגע לעורו.

ומובן שבאם כוונת מכתבו כפשוטו שבעצמו בוחר לו משחה ואופן הטפול בה, וע"פ השאלה מידידיו וכו', אין זה הדרך כמובן בשכל הטבעי וגם לא ע"פ הוראת תורתנו שנתנה רשות לרופא לרפאות, ובטח ישנם רופאים מומחים במקצוע זה בסמיכות מקום אליו ועכ"פ ישאל עתה להוראתם ויעשה כן, וע"פ הנ"ל מובן במה ששאל עצת איש אחד שאומרים עליו שהוא מומחה, גם זה אינו נכון, ויעשה כנ"ל וכמו שמסיים גם במכתבו, להתייעץ עם רופא עור וכו'.

ויהי רצון שיוסיף בתורה ומצותי' במסירה ונתינה ולא בהסדר שכותב שבאם יעזור לו השי"ת אז יתעורר, וסדר איש הישראלי הוא לכל לראש לעשות בפועל (ובפרט שהענין לעצמו אין די ערך וכמאמר המשנה שכר מצוה מצוה), והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב בהנוגע לבריאות לא רק בגשמיות אלא גם ברוחניות.

בודאי משתתף בפעולות צעירי אגודת חב"ד, ובאופן שלא יגע בסדרי הלימוד.
