To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Yehoshua (note: Rav Y. Elbaum of Jerusalem, see letter no. 5618),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 3 Elul, conveying good news, since you tell me that you read my letter (note: letter no. 5643) to those who participate in the Tanya* class, and that they were considerably encouraged and strengthened by it. No doubt this impression will remain strong during the days to come, in the manner demanded by our Torah*, the Torah* of life, according to which one must constantly add, since it is established that "one must know elevation in the domain of holiness."

It is surely unnecessary to point out to you the necessity of having a detailed program to take advantage of the days of Tishrei* that are approaching, as well as the days that precede them — during which, as Chassidus* explains in the Likkutei Torah*, Parshas Devarim, p. 32b, the King is in the field and there welcomes everyone with benevolence. Then there will be the days during which the spark is close to the Luminary (note: the Ten Days of Teshuvah). May Hashem be with your mouth, so that you achieve success in all of this.

As you request, I will mention each of you, for the satisfaction of your needs, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. I will also mention your father, Avraham the son of Berachah, for a speedy and complete recovery, in accordance with what you write. May Hashem grant that you give me good news of all this.

On the occasion of the new year, which approaches for us and for all of Israel, for good and for blessing, I hereby send you and all your family my blessing to be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually.

P.S.: You tell me about a young man who wishes to come here to raise funds. This is not easy at all, while his travel expenses will be a definite burden. In addition, he will have to set aside the study of Torah* and the practice of mitzvos*. Moreover, he will be exposed to all the denigration that those who devote themselves to such fundraising encounter. How much more so for someone who is not accustomed to it. May Hashem guide him on the path that will be truly good for him.

במענה על מכתבו מג' אלול בבשורה הטובה אשר מכתבי ללוקחי חלק בלימוד תניא הק' קרא ופעל התעוררות גדולה והתחזקות.

ובודאי רשומו חזק גם לימים יבואו ובאופן הנדרש ע"י תורתנו תורת חיים להוסיף ולחזור ולהוסיף וכפסק הדין מעלין בקדש.

בודאי למותר לעוררו ע"ד תכנית מפורטת לנצול ימי חדש תשרי הבע"ל והימים שלפניהם שהם כמבואר בתורת החסידות אשר המלך נמצא בשדה ומקבל את כ"א בספ"י (לקו"ת דברים לב, ב) ולאחרי זה הימים דקירוב המאור אל הניצוץ, ויהי רצון אשר השי"ת יהי' עם פיהו ויצליח בכל האמור.

כבקשתו אזכירם, כאו"א להמצטרך להם, על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע ואת אביו אברהם בן ברכה לרפו"ק ולרפו"ש מתאים לתוכן כתבו, ויה"ר שיבשר טוב בכל האמור.

ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו ולכל אשר לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.

במ"ש אשר האברך... רוצה לנסוע לכאן לאסוף כסף וכו' - אין ענין זה מדברים שבנקל כלל וכלל, בה בשעה שהוצאות הנסיעה ה"ז הוצאה ודאית נוסף על הענינים דביטול תורה ומצוה וכו' והעיקר עניני ביטוש וכו' הסובלים כל אלה המתעסקים במגביות וכו' ובפרט מי שלא הורגל בזה. ויהי רצון אשר השי"ת ינחהו את הנ"ל בדרך הטובה לפניו באמת.
