Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your request for a blessing for your daughter, to whom Hashem will grant long life. I am surprised not to have heard from you for a particularly long time, and even now you content yourself with sending me a request for a blessing without indicating anything more. No doubt you will complete all of this at the next opportunity, and may Hashem grant that you inform me of good news.

Regarding your daughter, insofar as one can assess her situation based on what you write, various new treatments have been introduced in recent years for a case such as hers. For instance, there are tablets that promote development. In Switzerland, there are physicians who specialize in this area. It would be good to inform yourself on this subject in a detailed manner. And you will act in accordance with what you are able to learn.

I am compelled to make a remark. You say that when she recovers, you will give, without making a vow, a contribution to the Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim*. This formulation is not the right one, for one cannot impose a condition on Hashem, asserting that He must first help and that one will then act. Indeed, every Jew is obligated, to the fullest extent possible, to put into practice what concerns the Torah* and the mitzvos* — which also includes tzedakah*. Moreover, tzedakah* is considered equivalent to all the mitzvos* and is even called the mitzvah* par excellence, as the Tanya* explains at length in chapter 37. Simultaneously, one must pray, ask Hashem, demand that He satisfy a person's needs — children, health, material prosperity. This is self-evident.

מאשר הנני קבלת הפ"נ עבור בתם תחי' ולפלא שזה זמן רב ביותר שלא הי' ממנו כל ידיעות וגם עתה מסתפק בהפ"נ ותו לא מידי, ובטח ימלא בהזדמנות הבאה ויהי רצון שיבשר טוב.

במ"ש אודות בתו תחי' הנ"ל, כפי שאפשר לברר המצב במכתבו, כמה טפולים חדשים נתחדשו בשנים האחרונות בכגון דא, כמו כדורים (פילען) הממהרים את ההתפתחות וכו' וכמדומה שבמדינת שווייץ נמצאים רופאים גדולים מומחים במקצוע זה, וכדאי שיתוודע עד"ז בפרטיות, ויעשה בהתאם להידיעות שיקבל.

מוכרחני להעיר בהנוגע לסיום מכתבו, שכשיעזור השי"ת ותתרפא יתן בל"נ לישיבת תומכי תמימים וכו' שאין זה נוסח רצוי באופן דלהתנות תנאים עם השי"ת ולהקדים שתחלה יעזור ואחרי כן וכו' והרי ענינו של כל איש ישראל הוא לעשות ככל האפשרי וככל יכולתו בעניני תורה ומצות שצדקה בכלל זה ועוד ששקולה היא כנגד כל המצות עד שנקראת בשם מצוה סתם (עיין בתניא פרק ל"ז בארוכה) וביחד עם זה להתפלל לבקש ולדרוש מהשי"ת המצטרך לו בבני חיי ומזוני רויחי. וק"ל.
