Greetings and blessings,

After, once again, a long interruption, I received your letter of 14 Menachem Av, in which you propose having students from the higher classes teach the lower classes for a few hours each day. In general, this is a good initiative. Indeed, experience shows that by demonstrating confidence in the higher classes — by making them teachers and spiritual guides, at least for a few hours — one adds enthusiasm for them to study with vigor and ardor within this school. Moreover, they become more deeply attached to the school and to everything that concerns it. Certainly, one might think that their lack of experience, at first, will reduce the success of their teaching and the education they dispense. But the experience of other places demonstrates that the enthusiasm of students, when they are given responsibility, compensates for their lack of knowledge in education and pedagogy.

Despite what has been said, it is clear that such an activity cannot be entrusted to all students in the higher classes. In addition to good conduct and a sense of responsibility, one must also possess the ability to command attention. Likewise, one must consider whether there is reason to fear that such an approach might be interpreted as the school's desire to use its students for its own benefit, without taking their own interests into account. All members of the directorate of Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak Lubavitch in Melbourne must therefore examine this project in its entirety, then determine for each student whether he possesses the required abilities, based on his character traits. Nevertheless, this should be carried through, for it has, directly, a much greater benefit for the student than for the yeshivah*. Of course, you have the right and even the merit to convey all this to the other members of the directorate.

You mention the farbrengen* and how it should be conducted. It would be good to speak about it in person with those who lead them, addressing each one individually, in the absence of any outsider. You will emphasize the idea you wrote to me, and you will discuss it together. Indeed, all share the same objective: putting into practice the teaching of our holy masters and spreading the wellsprings (note: of Chassidus) outward. You say nothing of your state of health, and I conclude that all is well.

שוב לאחרי הפסק ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מי"ד מנ"א, בו כותב אודות ההצעה לנצל תלמידי הכתות הגבוהות ללמד לתלמידי כתות הקטנות איזה שעות ביום.

והנה בכלל סברא נכונה היא, וכנראה במוחש אשר עצם הענין שנותנים אמון בתלמידי הכתה הגבוה ומעלים אותם לדרגת מורה ומשפיע עכ"פ לאיזה שעות, מוסיפה בהם מרץ להתמדה ושקידה בלימודם הם במוסד זה, נוסף על התקשרותם ובפנימיות יותר להמוסד ועניניו.

ואע"פ שיש מקום לומר שבהיותם מחוסרי נסיון בתקופה ראשונה, בתקופה זו אפשר שלא יצליחו כ"כ בענין ההוראה והחינוך, חזקה ממקומות אחרים בכגון דא אשר ההתלהבות של תלמידים כאלו לרגלי התמנותם לתעודה אחראית, ממלאה את החסר להם בידיעה באופני חינוך ופדגוגי'.

מובן שלאחרי כל האמור לא כל תלמידי כתות הגבוהות ראוים לזה, כי נוסף על הנהגתם טובה ורגש האחריות, צ"ל איזה כשרון להחזקת משמעת וכו' כן יש לדון ע"ד החשש שלא ירצו לפרש פעולה האמורה, שהמוסד רוצה לנצלם לתועלת שלו ומבלי התחשב עם תועלתם של התלמידים. ולכן מוכרח שכל חברי הנהלת אהלי יוסף יצחק ליובאוויטש במעלבורן ידונו ע"ד הצעה זו בכללותה, ואחרי כן בהנוגע לכל תלמיד בהתאם לאופי שלו תכונת נפשו. אבל כנ"ל יש להשתדל לעשות את האמור כי תועלת רבה היא להתלמיד יותר מאשר תועלת הישיבה באופן ישר. ומובן שברשותו וגם מזכותו למסור את הכתוב לעיל לשאר חברי ההנהלה.

במ"ש אודות ענין ההתועדות ואופנה, מהנכון שידבר עד"ז פא"פ עם ראשי המתועדים עם כ"א לבדו, מבלי שיהי' זר בשעת מעשה, ויעוררם על הנקודה אודותה כותב וידונו יחד עד"ז שהרי מטרת כל אחד מהנ"ל אחידה היא, והיא לקיים הוראת נשיאינו הק' להפיץ המעינות חוצה.

כיון שאינו מזכיר דבר בהנוגע לבריאותו וכו' בטח הכל בסדר.
