Greetings and blessings,

I thank you very much for your two letters of 15 and 17 Tammuz. I am surprised by the interruption since then. You will surely complete all of this at the next opportunity. You mention the incident that occurred at a certain place regarding Shabbos* observance (note: involving yeshivah students who came to spend Shabbos there to transmit the values of Yiddishkeit). It seems to me that I have already written to you — and perhaps also to the leadership of the Chabad youth association — that even though it is indeed necessary to visit the moshavim* and kibbutzim* that are, for now, not yet observant, and even though the most important fruits and consequences of this have already been observed, it remains clear that this does not dispense with the greatest caution. And this incident proves it. Consequently, no one may rely solely on his personal judgment. One must seek counsel from those who have acquired knowledge of the subject, as is the case with several members of the Chabad youth. And "salvation comes from many counselors."

Likewise, you tell me that according to your father, there is mockery (note: regarding the presence of young women at such locations). Without asking whether this mockery is founded or not, it is indeed stated: "Distance yourself from slander." It would be advisable to send to such locations only married young men. Perhaps it would even be good for at least one older man to participate in each of these trips, which would lend greater importance to the mission.

As I said, what has been accomplished until now — and what will surely be continued in the future — is of great importance, and no one can measure the good that will result from it later, in addition to the results one can already observe. Nevertheless, those who fear the word of Hashem must know that they are being observed closely, that some even seek pretexts to accuse. And our Sages emphasize that when an unlearned person has a stain on his garment, it is of no consequence — which is not the case for a scholar. Naturally, all of this is also addressed to your friends and to all who participate in this activity. You will surely bring it to their attention, and you will all take a decision on this matter together.

In anticipation of good news of all this,
