To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Meir Shalom (note: Rav M.S. Blesinski of Ramat Gan, see letter no. 5390),

Greetings and blessings,

After a particularly long interruption, I was pleased to receive your letter of 7 Menachem Av and your particularly precious gift — an esrog* grown from a tree planted from a seed originating in Calabria. May Hashem grant that each of us, within all of Israel, reveal all the blessings linked to the mitzvah* of the four species* — in particular, according to the well-known saying (note: see Hayom Yom, entry for 19 Tishrei) of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, that in the blessing of the year within the Amidah*, when saying the words "and all the agricultural produce for good," one should think of the wheat for the matzos* and the esrog*. Another text also mentions the wine for Kiddush*. Thus it is certain that "all the agricultural produce" will be "for good" — which underscores even more clearly the all-encompassing nature of this.

You are surely continuing to exert your influence on those you encounter, in particular on people who are themselves influential, in ever-increasing measure. You will take advantage, for this purpose, of the days of mercy and goodwill (note: the month of Elul) that are approaching. During this period, the soul of every Jew experiences a particular awakening. You know, indeed, the image according to which from Rosh Chodesh* Elul*, one welcomes the King in the field. How much more so during the Ten Days of Teshuvah*, when the Luminary is close to its emanation.

לאחרי הפסק הכי ארוך, נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מז' מנ"א ותשורתו הכי

נעלית - אתרוג שנטע מגרעין של אתרוג קלברה,

ויהי רצון שבכל אחד מאתנו, בתכ"י, יומשכו כל הענינים התלוים במצות ד' מינים, ובפרט ע"פ פתגם הידוע של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר אשר בתפלה (דברכת השנים) "ואת כל מיני תבואתה לטובה" צריך לכוון על חטים למצות ואתרוג (במ"א נזכר מלבד הנ"ל גם יין לקידוש) ואז במילא יהיה כל מיני תבואתה לטוהה, - שעי"ז עוד מודגשת כלליות ענין זה.

בטח ממשיך בהשפעתו על כל אלו שנפגש עמהם, ובפרט על בעלי השפעה שבהם, ובמדה ההולכת וגדלה. ובפרט ינצלו גם לענין זה ימי הרחמים והרצון הבאים לקראתנו, אשר אז התעוררות מיוחדת בנפש כאו"א מבני ישראל, וכידוע אשר מר"ח אלול הוא כמשל המלך שמקבלים פניו בשדה, ופשיטא - בימי עשי"ת, דקירוב המאור אל הניצוץ.
