Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 18 Menachem Av, in which you ask me about the situation in India. It appears that the situation of Jews there is not good, and one can genuinely wonder whether everything you describe is to be found there. In any event, this position is not suitable for a young man who has just married and who must remain in the proximity of people who have the fear of Hashem, who observe the Torah* and the mitzvos* — or at the very least not be too far from them.

May Hashem grant that you secure your livelihood and that of your family in tranquility and abundance, so that you will be able to use your abilities to strengthen Yiddishkeit* and disseminate it. At an auspicious time, I will mention those you name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us.

You are surely maintaining the studies of ChiTaT* — Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*. As for your wife, she has adopted the custom of virtuous women, which consists of setting aside tzedakah* before the lighting of the candles, on the eves of Shabbos* and festivals. At the very least, she will do so in the future.

במענה למכתבו מח"י במנ"א, בו שואל להמצב בהודו וכו'.

והנה כנראה אשר מצב היהדות שם אינו כדבעי, וצע"ג אם יש שם אותם הענינים אודותם כותב. ובכל אופן אין המשרה מתאמת לאברך שעתה נתחתן, וצריך להיות בסביבה של יראי שמים שומרי תורה ומצות, או עכ"פ בסמיכות לה.

והשי"ת ימציא לו פרנסתו ופרנסת ביתו במנוחה ובהרחבה, ובאופן שיוכל לנצל כשרונותיו להחזקת היהדות והפצתה.

בעת רצון אזכיר את כל אלו שכותב אודותם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.

ובטח שומר הוא שיעורי חת"ת (חומש תהלים תניא) וזוגתו תחי' נוהגת במנהג בנות ישראל הכשרות להפריש לצדקה קודם הדלקת הנרות בכל ערב שבת וערב יום טוב, ועל כל פנים תעשה כן מכאן ולהבא.
