Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter from this Monday, in which you speak of organizing a proper schedule in the ways of Torah* and the fear of Hashem. In general, not all individuals are the same in this regard. Everything depends on aptitude, capacity, and the time available. The common element among yeshivah* students — since it seems you belong to this group — is in-depth study, but also broader, more rapid study that enables the acquisition of knowledge. One must also learn the halachos* applicable to daily life, as well as those for Shabbos* and the festivals. In this generation, it is also indispensable to study the inner dimension of Torah*, which now possesses a rational and logical formulation thanks to Chassidus*. One must learn it every day, at least for a brief time. And this study period should be intensified on Shabbos*, which is "holy unto Hashem."

In all things, one needs the blessing of Hashem, and this applies to Torah* study as well (note: the blessing of Hashem makes it more fruitful). One must therefore give tzedakah* each weekday before the morning prayer. Likewise, you should study Chassidus* before the morning prayer and scrupulously observe Tevilas Ezra* (note: immersion after marital relations and, more broadly, each day).

May Hashem grant that you convey good news of all this.

במענה על מכתבו מיום השני, אודות עריכת סדר נכון בדרכי התורה והיראה.

והנה בכלל אין זה דבר השוה לכל נפש ותלוי בכשרון האדם ותכונת נפשו, והזמנים העומדים לרשותו, וענין השוה לבני הישיבה שכנראה הוא מסוג זה, שצ"ל לימוד לעיונא אבל גם לימוד למיגרס, ולימוד בהלכות הצריכות בחיי היום יומים ובשבת וימים טובים ובדור האחרון - מוכרח ג"כ לימוד בפנימיות התורה אשר עתה נתגלתה בהבנה והשגה היא תורת החסידות, לימוד בכל יום עכ"פ שעה קצרה ולהוסיף על זה כו"כ ביום השבת אשר קדש הוא לה'.

כיון שלכל דבר זקוקים לסייעתא דשמיא וכן בהנוגע לת"ת, הרי יש להפריש לצדקה בכל יום חול קודם תפלת הבקר, וללמוד קודם התפלה ענין חסידותי, ולהיות זהיר בטבילת עזרא, ויהי רצון שיבשר טוב בכל האמור.
