To the attention of Mr. S.Z., who is called Dr. Kahana,
Greetings and blessings,
I have duly received your letter of 24 Tammuz, together with its enclosure, and I thank you greatly. I will endeavor to act in the direction we discussed during your visit here.
At the end of your letter, you mention the ships (note: Israeli ships traveling on Shabbos, see letter no. 5534). You have been told that they face great difficulties. You understand how painful such a situation is. It concerns, indeed, a domain of mitzvah* which, according to our Sages, is compared to the totality of all mitzvos*. Moreover, it has been stated that "if the people of Israel observe one Shabbos*, the son of David (note: Moshiach*) will come immediately." Yet despite all this, there is no progress in this domain which, in common parlance, is not on the agenda. One can understand this from those who do not desire the coming of the son of David. There is no need to question their attitude, and indeed it is not about them that we speak. Conversely, whoever laments the destruction (note: of the Holy Temple) and the exile, who thirsts and yearns for the redemption and the rebuilding, should be willing to undertake any action, any effort, to take a step, to cross a threshold in order to alleviate the exile and hasten the redemption.
We have entered the period of consolation (note: after Shabbos Nachamu, following Tisha B'Av), which is, in the expression of our Sages, a consolation that is double relative to the pain and sorrow of the past, Heaven forbid. We will therefore witness the consolation of Tzion* and Yerushalayim*, through our righteous Moshiach*, very soon and in our days.
With my respects and blessing, in anticipation of your good news,
I have just received your book Eden Tzion and I thank you for it.
