Igrot Kodesh · Letter 5627 — Chinuch

Volume 15 · Letter 304

By the grace of Hashem,

5 Menachem Av* 5717,

In the present era (note: this letter, printed in Teshuvos U'Biurim p. 313, was a response to the question: do the teachings of our Sages such as "Reduce your activities to devote yourself to Torah" or "Make your Torah fixed and your work precarious" apply to the domain of education and teaching, or should one say in this case "the more, the better"?), education and teaching based on sacred values constitute (note: for each individual who engages in it) a mitzvah* that cannot be fulfilled by anyone else. Indeed, "the action of other persons is not at all sufficient" (note: according to the expression of our masters).

In this regard, therefore, all the laws stated by the Shulchan Aruch* apply. You should also consult the Laws of Torah* Study by the Alter Rebbe*, chapter 4, from paragraph 3 onward.
