and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I am replying to your letters of 17 Tammuz* — may this day be transformed into joy and gladness — and of the 20th, 24th, and 27th of Tammuz*. I thank you for informing me of what you have done during this period. You will no doubt maintain this positive practice, and may Hashem grant that you influence your friends who share with you the sacred mission of spreading the wellsprings (note: of Chassidus*) in general and of carrying out Chabad* activities in particular, so that they do the same and also adopt this practice. You have surely received, in due time, the response to your previous letters.

In this period of the Three Weeks*, which commemorates the destruction (note: of the Temple) and devastation, it must be perfectly clear that there is in no way here a punishment, a cause for discouragement and sadness, Heaven forbid, but rather a repair — a construction even stronger and more solid that will enable the erection of a Sanctuary for Hashem here below. And it is stated: "I shall dwell among them." Indeed, the repair and construction of the Sanctuary that every Jewish man and woman carries within, the spreading of the wellsprings — including among those who, for the present, still find themselves on the outside — will hasten the true and complete redemption through our righteous Moshiach* and the building of the Temple, very soon.

ת"ח על כתבו אודות פעולותיו משך ימים אלו, ובטח ימשיך במנהגו טוב זה, והלואי שישפיע על חבירו במלאכת הקדש, הוא ענין הפצת המעיינות ובכלל הפעולות בשטח חב"ד - שגם הם יעשו וינהגו ככה.

המענה על מכתביו הקודמים בטח הגיע במועדו.

ובימים אלו דבין המצרים המזכירים על החורבן והירוס, יש להדגיש כי אין ענינם עונש גרידא, ונמיכת רוח ועצבות ח"ו, אלא תיקון ובנין ביתר שאת וביתר עז לעשות לו ית' דירה בתחתונים, ושכנתי בתוכם כתיב, שעל ידי תיקון ובנין המשכן שבכל אחד ואחת מבני ישראל, והפצת המעיינות אפילו בין אלה שעדין נמצאים חוצה - נחיש הגאולה השלימה והאמתית על ידי משיח צדקנו ובנין בית הבחירה בקרוב ממש.
