Blessings and greetings,

I am replying to your letter, in which you describe the state of your son, may Hashem grant him long life. At a propitious time, I will mention his name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, so that his situation may improve and that he may settle favorably soon.

His emotional state results from what happened to his younger brother, may he rest in peace. It is therefore necessary to explain to him that by engaging in an activity that benefits Jewish children, he will give pleasure to the soul of his brother. It is only in this way that he will succeed — and not by isolating himself. All Jews, and more broadly all religious people, believe in the endurance of the soul, are convinced that it is eternal, that it always exists, that it awaits from those who wish it well that they act for its benefit and its elevation by performing good deeds on behalf of Jews. It is clear that by isolating oneself, one can do nothing for them. On the contrary, one must act in accordance with one's capacities and means.

You may, of course, show this letter to your son, and may Hashem grant that he accept my instructions. He will seek and find a position, a work that will benefit the soul of his brother and in this way bring it pleasure.

It would be good to have the mezuzos* of your home inspected, as well as the tefillin* of your son.

במענה על מכתבה בו כותבת ע"ד מצב בנה... שליט"א.

בעת רצון אזכירו על ציון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע להטבת מצבו ולהסתדרות טובה בקרוב.

כיון שמצב רוחו נגרם על ידי המאורע של אחיו הצעיר ע"ה, צריך הי' להסבירו שעל ידי שיתעסק בענינים המביאים תועלת לילדי בני ישראל על ידי זה יגרום נחת רוח לנשמת אחיו, ורק על ידי זה, ולא על ידי התבודדות וכו'. והרי כל בני ישראל, ובכלל כל אנשי דת, מאמינים בהשארת הנפש, זאת אומרת שהנפש נצחיית היא וקיימת תמיד ומחכה אשר אלה המתענינים באושרה יעשו מה לטובתה ולעלית הנשמה על ידי פעולות טובות לתועלת בני ישראל. וכמובן אשר במצב של התבודדות אי אפשר לו לעשות בשבילה כלום, כי אם על ידי היותו פעיל מתאים לכשרונותיו ויכלתו.

מובן שיכולה להראות מכתבי זה לבנה, ויהי רצון שישמע להוראתי זו, ויחפש ואז גם ימצא משרה ועבודה, שעי"ז יביא תועלת ובמילא גם יגרום נחת רוח לנשמת האח.

מהראוי שיבדקו המזוזות בביתה, ושגם התפילין של בנה יובדקו.
