Greetings and blessings,

I am replying to your letter, which I received at the end of the month of Sivan*, in which you express surprise at the allusion to a doctor that I made in my correspondence (note: the recipient wondered why he should need to consult a doctor). I am surprised by your surprise — first, because Tractate Nedarim* 49b itself makes reference to the ailments of the Sages*, and furthermore, because when you came here, you were able to see for yourself that the travel and the change in arrangements for eating, drinking, and sleeping did not strengthen your health. That is why I introduced an allusion to this and wrote it to you. I hope you have complied (note: that is, consulted a doctor) or, at the very least, that you will do so.

You are considering a trip here (note: in order to secure material livelihood). You will deduce my position from what has just been said. For the time being, this is not necessary. It is practically certain that such a trip would have the effect just described, especially during the summer, or even at the end of summer, which is even more difficult than its beginning. The benefit of what you would accomplish here is uncertain. Moreover, your brothers and friends can handle this themselves (note: act in America on the addressee's behalf). He Who feeds each person with grace, kindness, and mercy will surely enable you to provide for your needs in the holy city of Jerusalem, especially if you forge a receptacle in a natural manner, right there, through your brothers and friends. Why leave the holy city of Jerusalem and the Holy Land, losing strength in the process, only to find uncertainty?

May Hashem grant that you give me good news, of visible and tangible good, concerning all of this. You will celebrate the Festival of Liberation (note: of the Frierdiker Rebbe* from Soviet imprisonment) of 12 and 13 Tammuz*, which is approaching, among the Chassidim*, with joy and enthusiasm. The central focus (note: of this celebration) will be the spreading of the wellsprings (note: of Chassidus*) outward, to the greatest extent possible, in accordance with what is needed.

ולפלא על פליאתו, שנוסף על כללות הודעת חז"ל מריעי רבנן (נדרים מט, ב) הנה בהיותו פה כנראה שטלטולא דגברא והעדר הסדר באכו"ש ושינה וכו' ג"כ לא הוסיפו בבריאות ולכן רמזתי וכתבתי הנ"ל, ותקותי אשר עשה כן או שיעשה כן עכ"פ עתה.

ובמ"ש אודות נסיעה לכאן, ע"פ הנ"ל מובנת השקפתי שאין כדאי הדבר עכ"פ לעת עתה, ובפרט הפעולה בהנ"ל כמעט בגדר ודאי הוא ופרט ימי הקיץ ושילהי קייטא דקשה מקייטא, והתועלת שתהי' בביאתו לכאן נוספת על מה שבטח יעשו בענינו אחיו וידידיו מסופקת, והזן ומפרנס לכל בחן ובחסד וברחמים בודאי שיכול לפרנסו בירושלים עיה"ק ת"ו ובפרט שיעשה גם כלי בדרך הטבע ע"י אחיו וידידיו כאן, ולמה לצאת מעיה"ק ירושלים ת"ו ומאה"ק ת"ו ולאבד כחות על הספק וכו' ויהי רצון שיבשר טוב בטוב הנראה והנגלה מתאים לכל הנ"ל ויחוג ימי חג הגאולה י"ב וי"ג תמוז הבע"ל בתוככי אנ"ש בשמחה ובטוב לבב ובנקודה התיכונה הפצת המעינות חוצה ככל האפשרי וככל הדרוש.
