The mitzvah* of the circumcision of our father Avraham* (note: this letter is addressed to Rav Meir Avtzon; it was written on his correspondence of 4 Sivan; see also letter no. 4894) also had a material dimension. Moreover, this latter was its essential aspect, as explained in the discourse "Voici Avram" in the Torah Or*, at the beginning of Parshas* Lech Lecha*, end of chapter 5, and in the Likutei Torah* on three Parshiyos*, commenting on this idea, at page 86c.
(note: Rav Avtzon had asked: Can this mitzvah be compared to all the others that Avraham fulfilled in a spiritual manner, as did the Patriarchs in general? Or can it be compared to the mitzvos after the giving of the Torah, which are also material?)

מצות מילה דאאע"ה היא גם בגשמיות. ולא עוד אלא שזהו כוונה עיקרית בה וכמוש"כ בד"ה הנה אברם (תו"א ר"פ לך לך) סס"ה, ובלקו"ת לג"פ בביאור ע"ז (פו, ע"ג).
