To the Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav* Yehoshua (note: Rav Y. Levy of Jerusalem; see also letters nos. 2298 and 5658),

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letter of 21 Sivan*, with what you added to it. Finding myself yesterday (note: on the occasion of the eve of the eve of Rosh Chodesh*, the eve itself being a Friday) at the holy resting place* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit* protects us, I mentioned your name and those of the members of your family, in accordance with what you write to me.

May Hashem* grant that you convey good news of this, especially since the merit of the public assists you. Indeed, you devote yourself to the purity of the daughters of Israel*. There are no words to express how important this is. In the country where we were previously (note: Russia), many gave of themselves for this cause, beginning with my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit* protects us.

In a few days, we will celebrate the festival of his liberation. Now, he was imprisoned precisely for having carried out this activity, and how much more must one do so at the present time. Indeed, his liberation marked the victory over darkness and concealment. May Hashem* therefore grant that at the present time as well, a fundamental change be evident in everything that concerns purity, in the literal sense. Consequently, the soul will be purified as well. You will consult, on this subject, the Likutei Torah* of the Alter Rebbe*, on Parshas* Tavo*, page 43b.

מאשר הנני קבלת המכתב מכ"א סיון עם הוספת כת"ר שי' ובהיותי אתמול על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, הזכרתיו ואת ב"ב שיחיו מתאים לתוכן כתבו. ויהי רצון שיבשר טוב בזה ובפרט שזכות הרבים מסייעתו, שהרי עוסק הוא בטהרת בנות ישראל אשר גודל הענין אין די באר ואין די ערך, ואם במדינתנו לפנים מסרו נפשם בנ"י על זה ובראשם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע אשר ימי חג הגאולה שלו הם בעוד איזה ימים, שמראשי סיבות המאסר היתה עסקנותו בזה ובכגון דא, עאכו"כ עתה. וגאולתו שזהו נצחון הענין על ההעלמות והסתרים, הנה יהי רצון שגם עתה יתראה שינוי מעיקרא בהטבת המצב של הטהרה כפשוטה שבמילא תביא להוספה גם בטהרת הנשמה, ויעוין ג"כ לקוטי תורה לרבנו הזקן פ' תבא מ"ג סוף ע"ב.
