Igrot Kodesh · Letter 5546 — Tzedakah

Volume 15 · Letter 222

By the grace of Hashem*,

26 Sivan* 5717,

Brooklyn,

I greet you and bless you,

You allude to this Rav*. It is in such a case that the commentary of the Likutei Torah* of this week applies, affirming that form, even when it is not well-adapted, possesses a strength that can be used judiciously, to the fullest extent possible. One must therefore take advantage of his character traits to develop the dissemination of the wellsprings* (note: of Chassidus*) — that is, of the customs and practices of Chassidus*, of its study. From the way you describe his personality, this will be accomplished without difficulty, if one proceeds in an agreeable manner. This is self-evident.

What must be rectified, however, is the following point. You say that this Rav* has forbidden it (note: the conjugal relation) during the entire week, permitting it only on Shabbos* night. According to your letter, this prohibition has been widely disseminated and is categorical. Now, one understands what results from this and what there is to fear in our orphaned generation. If you are unable to change his mind in this matter, it may be necessary for me to write to him myself from here.

With my blessing to convey good news,
