Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter of 8 Sivan. You ask me how you can determine whether an idea comes from the good inclination (yetzer tov*) or the evil inclination (yetzer hara*).
You have consulted the account of the Rebbe of Chernobyl (note: see letter no. 4540), which is cited in the talk of Pesach 5703 (note: 1943, of the Frierdiker Rebbe). Also see the Hayom Yom*, at the date of 23 Sivan. This will provide the answer to your question.
Your second question was: may you study the Tanya* with young men? Not only may you do so, but moreover, it is even an obligation. Indeed, it is explained at length elsewhere that the inner teaching of the Torah, revealed in our era through Chassidus*, is an individual duty. It is a matter not only of knowing another part of the Torah, but also of strengthening oneself in the fulfillment of mitzvos* and the study of the revealed dimension of the Torah. May Hashem grant that you give me good news regarding all of this.

במענה על מכתבו מח' סיון, בשאלתו אופן הבחינה לדעת אם זהו עצת היצר טוב או של היצר הרע.
הנה כיון שעיין בסיפור דהרה"צ מטשרנוביל (שהובא בשיחת פסח תש"ג) ובטח יראה המובא גם בהיום יום כ"ג סיון, ה"ז פתרון שאלתו.
ובשאלתו השני' האם מותר לו ללמוד תניא עם אברכים הנה לא רק שמותר אלא שמחויב הוא בזה וכמבואר במ"א בארוכה אשר לימוד פנימיות התורה שנתגלתה בדורנו בתורת החסידות, הרי זה חובת גברא, כי נוגע זה לא רק ידיעת עוד ענין בתורה אלא חיזוק הוא גם באופן קיום המצות ולימוד בתורת הנגלה. ויהי רצון שיבשר טוב בכל האמור.
