To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav Yehuda (note: Rav Y. Gluck, of London),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 10 Sivan, requesting a blessing.

At a propitious moment, I will mention your name and those of the members of your family at the holy resting place (Ohel*) of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, so that you may obtain the satisfaction of your needs, in accordance with what you write to me.

I read with pleasure, at the end of your letter, that from time to time you study Chassidus*. I have good hope that at least in the future, you will do so on a fixed basis. Better still, this regularity will be not only in time, but also in spirit, so that this study will be felt throughout the entire day, in the form of increased light and vitality in all that pertains to Torah, mitzvos*, and, more broadly, the person as a whole. Of all of these together it is said: "In all your ways, know Him" (Mishlei 3:6), as explained at length in the Rambam's* Laws of Deos and in the Tur Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim, chapter 231, which you should consult.

You indicate in your letter that you were present at the Chassidic gathering (farbrengen*) held by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, in the Papenheim house in Vienna. You are presumably referring to the one during which he recounted (note: see Sefer HaSichos 5705, p. 30) the journey of his grandfather, the Rebbe Maharash*, to Paris, solely for the purpose of saving one Jewish soul and bringing it to teshuvah* (repentance). This account is well known among the Chassidim. And my father-in-law, the Rebbe, concluded it by noting that this young man, having come to teshuvah through that journey, subsequently became the head of one of the most pious families in France.

Everything is an effect of Divine Providence, including the mention in this letter of your participation in that Chassidic gathering. There is surely an indication here of the obligation incumbent upon you to devote yourself ardently to the dissemination of the wellsprings (note: of Chassidus) outward. Providence will surely give you multiple opportunities to do so, if you truly desire it. You will meet with success in this dissemination and, of course, you will thereby multiply the blessings of Hashem in all your needs, as well as those of the members of your family, regarding everything you mention in your request for a blessing. I await good news from you.

P.S.: You surely know and observe the three daily studies that apply to everyone, instituted by my father-in-law, the Rebbe — pertaining to the Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*, which are well known. At the very least, you will adopt them in the future.

בעת רצון אזכירו ואת ב"ב שיחיו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע להמצטרך להם, מתאים לתוכן כתבו.

נעם לי לקרות בסיום המכתב אשר לומד לפרקים בתורת החסידות, ותקותי חזקה אשר עכ"פ מכאן ולהבא יהי' הלימוד בקביעות, ומי יתן לא רק קביעות בזמן אלא גם קביעות בנפש, ועל מנת שיורגש לימוד זה במשך כל היום ע"י תוספת אור וחיות בעניני תורה ומצות ובכלל בעניני האדם אשר על כולם נאמר בכל דרכיך דעהו, וכמובא בארוכה בהלכות דיעות להרמב"ם ובטור שו"ע או"ח סי' רל"א, עיין שם.

וכיון שמזכיר במכתבו שהי' נוכח בהתועדות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שהתקיימה בבית פאפענהיים בווין, כנראה כוונתו לאותה ההתועדות שסיפר אז כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר ע"ד נסיעת זקנו כ"ק אדמו"ר מוהר"ש לפאריז במיוחד בשביל להציל ולהחזיר בתשובה נפש אחת מישראל, וכידוע הסיפור בתוככי החסידים, וסיים אז כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, אשר מאותו האברך שהוחזר לתשובה ע"י נסיעה זו, נהי' אח"כ לראש משפחה דבני ישראל היותר חרדים אשר בצרפת.

וכיון שהכל בהשגחה פרטית, ובכלל זה מה שמזכיר במכתבו שהי' בעת ההתועדות, בודאי זוהי הוראה אשר עליו להתעסק במרץ בהפצת המעינות חוצה, ובטח תמציא לו השגחה העליונה כמה הזדמנויות, באם רק ירצה באמת ויצליח בההפצה, ופשוט שעי"ז יתרבה גם בברכות השי"ת בהמצטרך לו ולכל בני ביתו שיחיו ובהענינים אודותם כותב בהפ"נ, ואחכה לבשו"ט.
