To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,
Rav Yeshaya Ouri (note: Rav Y. O. Berman, of Montreal), the Shochet*,
Greetings and blessings,
I received news of you with pleasure from the distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem, of good conduct, from a fine family and learned, Rav Chaim Shneur Zalman Marzev, who also informed me of the good relationship you maintain with him and his friends.
May Hashem grant that for many years to come, you continue to spread good around you, in every place where you exercise your influence, in good health, with joy and enthusiasm. The central point, in accordance with the teaching given in the study house of Rabbi Yishmael, is that shechitah* constitutes an "attraction" of the animal (note: see letter no. 4442), effected by the knife, enabling it to become one with the blood and flesh of the man — Adam — so called because he is in the image (Adameh) of the Most High, as noted by the holy Shnei Luchos HaBris*. Likewise, your spiritual accomplishments will also draw the animal souls (nefesh habehamis*) of Jews, in order to make them into vessels for "the second soul of Israel," in the expression of the Alter Rebbe* (note: the Divine soul), which is "a portion of Divinity from Above in the literal sense," emanating from "the Supernal Man seated upon the Throne."

ויהי רצון אשר עוד רבות בשנים יפעול טוב בסביבתו ובכל מקום שידו מגעת מתוך בריאות ובשמחה ובטוב לבב, ובנקודה התיכונה מתאים למאמר תדבר"י אין ושחט אלא ומשך, אשר משיכת הסכין מושכת את הבהמה ומכשירתה להעשות דם ובשר כבשר המדבר הוא האדם, שנקרא כן על שם אדמה לעליון, וכמ"ש השל"ה הק', שיתאימו לזה גם פעולות הרוחניות להמשיך את כל עניני נפש הבהמית שבאיש הישראלי לעשותם כלים לעניני (בלשון רבנו הזקן) לנפש השנית שבישראל שהיא חלק אלקה ממעל ממש הנק' כביכול אדם העליון שעל הכסא.
