Greetings and blessings,

It is surely unnecessary to emphasize to you the necessity of intensifying the indispensable distribution of publications and, all the more so, of tefillin* and mezuzos*, to which you allude. There is far more here than merely ascending in the domain of holiness. One can observe concretely that one thereby saves Jewish souls and leads them to the World to Come, when one encourages them verbally and connects that encouragement to a concrete action, to the fulfillment of a mitzvah* — for instance, that of tefillin. Indeed, as the Likkutei Torah* explains, a celestial impulse must be connected to a human effort and a concrete action. This is self-evident.

May Hashem grant that you accomplish all of this with proper ardor, in ever-wider proportions, with joy and enthusiasm. You will influence those around you so that they all do the same. It is certain that the One Who gives the Torah and commands the mitzvos will keep His promise, that "to whoever adds (note: efforts), more is added (note: blessings)" — the satisfaction of all needs, material and spiritual, which, of course, also includes physical health. We have just lived through the time of receiving the Torah. At that time, as our Sages emphasize, all were healthy and whole, including physically, in their bodies.

During our discussion, I believe I mentioned to you that if, in the course of your travels, you find in synagogues or even in private homes abandoned books that are no longer in use, it would be good to send them here (note: see letter no. 4685), if they are valuable. In exchange, that community will be given, for example, prayer books or Chumashim, abridged editions of the Shulchan Aruch. The benefit of proceeding in this manner is quite evident. I am surprised that you say nothing to me about all of this. However, I hope that you have not forgotten it.

... בודאי למותר לעוררו אודות ההוספה המוכרחת בהפצת עניני דפוס ועאכו"כ בעניני הנחת תפילין וקביעות מזוזות אודותם כותב, וזהו הרבה עוד יותר מענין דמעלין בקדש, כיון שרואים במוחש הצלת נפשות מישראל לחיי העולם הבא כשמעוררים אותם בדבור ומקשרים ההתעוררות במעשה בפועל במצות מעשיות כמו תפילין וכו' והוא ע"ד המבואר בלקוטי תורה, שאתעדל"ע צריכה לקשרה באתעדל"ת ובפועל, וק"ל.

ויהי רצון שיעשה כל זה במרץ המתאים ובממדים ההולכים וגדולים מתוך שמחה וטוב לבב וישפיע על כל אלו שבסביבתו שגם הם יעשו ככה ובטוח נותן התורה ומצוה המצוה לקיים הבטחתו שכל המוסיף מוסיפין לו בהמצטרך בגשמיות וברוחניות, ופשוט שבריאות הגוף גם כפשוטו בכלל זה הוא, והרי באים הננו מימי קבלת התורה אשר כדרשת חז"ל בעת קבלת התורה היו כל ישראל בריאים ושלמים גם בגשמיות ובגופם.

כמדומה בעת שיחתנו העירותיו שבודאי במשך נסיעותיו מוצאים ספרים בבתי הכנסיות וגם בבתים פרטים המונחים כאבן שאין לה הופכים להבדיל ואין משתמשים בהם, שכדאי לשלחם לכאן באם יקרי המציאות הם וכיו"ב, ולתת במקומם להקהלה סדורים חומשים קיצור שו"ע וכיו"ב והתועלת מובנת. ולפלא שאינו מזכיר ע"ד הנ"ל אף שתקותי שלא שכח הענין.
