Blessings and greetings (note: this letter is addressed to a young girl),

I am responding to your letter of Motzoei Shabbos*, in which you describe your areas of interest, with a view to your future vocation. You ask me what choice you should make.

In my opinion, it is good that you choose to become a kindergarten teacher. In our era, this profession enables one to confer merit upon the greatest number, to educate Jewish children in Torah and Tradition. If you prepare for this with good will, you will certainly meet with success. It would be good for you to devote all the time necessary for solid and orderly preparation. The success of your future work depends on it.

You ask me about the proposal made to your father to work for the navy. This is absolutely not suitable for him (note: see letter no. 4817). And the One Who provides sustenance to all beings will enable him to earn his livelihood with kindness, mercy, and in a fitting manner.

It is surely unnecessary to emphasize that the more you strengthen your conduct in accordance with what a Jewish girl should do — one who is a descendant of Sarah, Rivka, Rachel, and Leah, our holy mothers — the more Hashem, Creator of the world, Who directs it and gives the Torah and the mitzvos*, will provide for your needs and those of your entire family. And nothing stands in the way of the will.

במענה על מכתבך ממוצש"ק בו את כותבת אודות שאיפותיך בהנוגע להסתדרותך בעתיד, ושואלת במה תבחר.

ולדעתי טוב שתבחרי להיות גננת, שבתקופתנו גם זכות הרבים במקצוע זה, חינוך בנ"י בדרך התורה והמסורה, וכשתכיני את עצמך בחפץ למקצוע זה בודאי תצליחי, וכדאי להקדיש לזה כל הזמן הדרוש להכנה מבוססה ומסודרה, כיון שנוגע להצלחת העבודה בעתיד.

בשאלתה, במה שהציעו לאבי' שי' לעבוד בחיל הים - אין זה מתאים בשבילו כלל וכלל, והזן ומפרנס לכל ימציא לו פרנסתו בחסד וברחמים ובכשרות.

בודאי למותר לעוררה שככל שמוסיפין בהנהגה מתאימה לבת ישראל שכל אחת מהן היא בת שרה רבקה רחל ולאה האמהות הקדושות, מוסיף השם יתברך בורא עולם ומנהיגו נותן התורה והמצוה בהמצטרך לאדם ולכל משפחתו, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון.
