Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of the day during which the word "good" was said twice (note: Tuesday of Creation; the letter was written on Tuesday of Parshas Nasso). I read with pleasure that at the beginning of this month, your business showed a small upturn. May Hashem grant that this be a good beginning for further development, which will increase your means in the literal sense, as needed, and will also confer upon you breadth of spirit, so that it will be easier for you to serve Hashem with joy and enthusiasm, as the verse (note: "Serve Hashem with joy" — Tehillim 100:2) obligates us.

Moreover, the festival of Shavuos approaches, and as you know, Chassidus* explains that the wedding ring given by the Holy One, blessed be He, to Israel at their union near Mount Sinai was material blessings — abundance, children, health, and prosperity.

You express your surprise at my response (note: the addressee had requested a blessing for better livelihood and the Rebbe indicated a practical means to achieve it) and you say, in the common expression, that you also know an address (note: for obtaining a blessing). Of course, my purpose was not to play the role of an address book, but rather to indicate to you a means of better earning your livelihood. Now, I must define this means as I see it myself, and not as someone else would want me to see it through his eyes.

במענה על מכתבו מיום שהוכפל בו כי טוב לס' נשא נעם לי לקרות במכתבו שבתחלת החודש נראה קצת חיות בהמסחר, ויהי רצון שיהי' זה התחלה טובה לחיות במסחר בהתפשטות שתתרבה הפרנסה כפשוטה בכל הדרוש ותגרום גם להרחבת הדעת ולהקלת (עס זאל גרינגער אנקומען) עבודת ה' בשמחה ובטוב לבב כציווי הכתוב.

ובפרט כשחג השבועות ממשמש ובא, וידוע המבואר בחסידות, שטבעת הקדושין שנתן הקב"ה לישראל בעת שקידש אותם במעמד הר סיני הם הענינים הגשמיים, שיהי' טוב בגשמיות בבני חיי ומזוני רויחא.

מה שמתפלא על תשובותי וכדאמרי בעלמא אז ער ווייס אויך אן אדרעס, מובן שאין כוונת תשובה להיות במקום אדרעסן-בוך כ"א להורות לו הדרך איך שייטיב מצב פרנסתו, ומוכרחני לומר כמו שאני רואה את הדרך ולא כמו שאחר רוצה שאראה הדרך בעיניו הוא.
