Igrot Kodesh · Letter 549 — 19 Kislev — Expanding Vessels for the New Light

Enclosed you will find the booklet published on the occasion of 19 Kislev*, which has just appeared. It is surely unnecessary to emphasize to you the importance of consulting it, studying it, and carefully reading the letter of my father-in-law, the Rabbi Shlita*, at the beginning and end of the booklet.

It is therefore equally unnecessary to demonstrate the need to make this booklet available to as many people as possible. Its opening letter says, indeed, 'on the contrary'[1], and one may give the following explanation:

A) From the perspective of human beings: We now need a stronger and broader light, due to the qualitative decline of our era, for what is the merit of this generation? And if our predecessors were like angels...[2].

Moreover, the decline is also quantitative. The recent events we have experienced have particularly diminished the number of Jews, both generally and specifically.

B) From the celestial perspective: Each year, a new light shines forth, emanating from a particularly elevated source that has never before illuminated the world, as explained in Igeret HaKodesh*, chapter 14. It is therefore necessary to multiply the vessels capable of containing it.

More precisely, the time is approaching for the fulfillment of the promise that 'in its time, I will hasten it'[3]. The Mashiach* will come and be revealed, and the vessel for this is the light of Chassidut*, as the discourse of Simchat Torah* 5690 explains at length.

The necessary condition for attaining all of this is the spreading of the wellsprings of Chassidut* to the outside. The emanation must reach even a place that until now could be characterized as 'outside.'

In every place, it is fitting to broaden the vessel that contains the light of Mashiach*.

May Hashem bring it about that all the blessings stated in these letters be fully realized, very soon and in our days.

[1] The previous Rabbi said: 'On the occasion of 19 Kislev that is approaching, I am sending you a copy of my letter of 5687, which shows the importance of studying and spreading Chassidut. This letter retains its full value and all the more so.'

ובמילא למותר לעוררו ע"ד הנחיצות לזכות בקונטרס זה את הרבים. ומש"כ במכתב הראשון הנ"ל ואדרבה , י"ל:

א) מצד המטה: זקוקים עתה לאור גדול והתפשטות יותר, מפני הירידה באיכות (כי אכשור דרי - בתמי' - ואם הראשונים כמלאכים, אנו כו') ובכמות (ע"י המאורעות דזמן האחרון נתמעט ביותר מספר אחב"י בכלל ובפרט).

ב) מצד למעלה: בכלל, בכל שנה ושנה נמשך אור חדש עליון מבחי' עליונה יותר שלא הי' מאיר עדיין מעולם (יעויין אגה"ק ס' יד) ובמילא צריכים להרבות ג"כ הכלים לאור זה. בפרט, הולך ומתקרב זמן דבעתה אחישנה, ביאת וגילוי המשיח, אשר הכלי לזה הוא אור החסידות (שיחת שמח"ת תר"ץ בארוכה). והתנאי לזה הוא יפוצו מעינותיך חוצה. ובמילא צ"ל ההתפשטות ג"כ במקום שהי' חוצה ע"ע, והגדלת הכלי, בכל מקום, לאור המשיח.

במכתב... ואדרבה: במכתב הא' (מאדמו"ר מהוריי"צ נ"ע) שבקונטרס י"ט כסלו תש"י (סה"מ תש"י ע' 94. אג"ק שלו ח"י אגרת ג'תרלו) כותב וז"ל: "לי"ט כסלו הבעל"ט מוסר אני לכם... והעתק מכתבי בשנת ה'תרפ"ז המעורר על ההתעסקות בהפצת לימוד דא"ח.
