Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 28 Teves*, in which you contemplate having one of the students of the yeshivah* come here to continue his studies, for, you say, it is precisely here that he will achieve success, which is not possible in the place where he is currently situated.

You know my opinion on this subject (see note 1). I have already expressed it clearly to those who asked me. It is also based on the consequences — on the situation of those who have proceeded in this manner. It is as follows:

The evil inclination, unfortunately, travels with the student who journeys. This is compounded by troubled thoughts, the impossibility of concentrating in a large city (see note 2), the considerable time that is lost, the preparations for the journey, the settling into the new place, and the new and varied pretexts (see note 3) that present themselves based on the location.

Now, one who truly wants to study Torah can achieve immense success at Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim* of Lod*, where there are none of the obstacles to study that characterize the large city.

May Hashem* grant that you find the right words to explain all of this — first to yourself, in order to understand it well and to observe that it is not far-fetched, for such is the reality. Through this, you will then be able to make it understood by this student and his mother.

Surely the proper preparations are being made for the hilula* of 10 Shevat (see note 4), which approaches. The merit of the one whose hilula is being celebrated will protect every Chassid*, among all the people of Israel, ensuring the satisfaction of his needs, material and spiritual.

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ח טבת, בו כותב הסברא אשר פב"פ מהת' יסע לכאן ללמוד ודוקא פה יצליח משא"כ במקומו בו לומד עתה.

וכבר ידועה דעתי בזה שכתבתי' ברור לכו"כ מהשואלים בכגון דא, ומיוסדת גם על התוצאות והמצב של אלו שכבר עשו כהנ"ל והוא:

לדאבוננו גם היצה"ר נוסע עם הת' המשנה מקומו, ונוסף על זה בלבול המחשבה ופזור הנפש דישיבת כרכים ביטול זמן הכי גדול וההכנות והנסיעה והסתדרות במקום החדש ואמתלאות חדשות שונות ומשונות בהתאם למקום החדש, והרוצה באמת ללמוד כדבעי יכול להצליח בישיבת תו"ת בלוד בהצלחה מופלגה, ואין בה כל אותם הענינים המבלבלים הנמצאים בכרך גדול וכו' ויה"ר שימצא אותיות המתאימות בכל הנ"ל בתחלה לעצמו עד שיוקלטו אצלו הדברים בהנחה טובה ולא רחוקה היא כיון שזה מתאים להמציאות ואז בטח ימצא גם האותיות איך להסביר זה להת' ולאמו שיחיו.

בטח עושים הכנות המתאימות ליום ההילולא יו"ד שבט הבע"ל וזכות בעל ההילולא יעמוד לכאו"א מאנ"ש בתכ"י בהמצטרך בגו"ר.
