To the great Rav who fears Hashem*,

of manifold accomplishments

and fine character, Rav Aryeh Leib* (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I have not received a letter from you for a very long time, although in response to my inquiries, I receive, from time to time, tidings of you and I know what you are doing.

I have just received news of you from Mr. Golin. Surely you are redoubling your ardor in your sacred mission, which consists of strengthening and encouraging the hearts of those who are unfortunate.

Indeed, it has been stated regarding the present era that "the poor shall not cease from the land" — including in their spiritual dimension. Those who put into practice the words of the verse: "Give, you shall give" — that is, "even a thousand times" (see note 2) — therefore have great merit and immense responsibility.

They thereby hasten the fulfillment of the promise that "then there will be no more poor," during the Messianic era. However, Shmuel* gives a divergent opinion on this matter, in Tractate Shabbos* 151b. And the Zohar*, vol. 3, p. 125a, specifies: "From their side, there will be none. This will not be the case for those who have tasted the Tree of Life" (see note 3).

The hilula* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, will soon be upon us (see note 4). He gave of his very self so that all might taste the Tree of Life. Now, "a tzaddik*, after he has departed this world, is found in all the worlds more than during his lifetime."

With my respects and my blessing for success in your sacred mission and for deriving much satisfaction from all your children, for long days and good years,

זה זמן רב שלא נתקבל כל מכתב ממנו, אף שבמענה לשאלותי מקבל אני ידיעות מזמן לזמן מהנעשה אתו, ומשלומו.

ונעם לי לקבל ז"ע פ"ש ע"י מר גאלין שי' ובודאי אשר מוסיף חילים בעבודתו בקדש לחזק לעורר לב נדכאים, והרי כל עוד שנמצאים בזמן עליו נאמר לא יחדל אביון (גם אביון ברוחניות) מקרב הארץ, גדול הזכות והאחריות של כל אלו המקיימים נתן תתן אפילו מאה פעמים, וזה עצמו מקרב היעוד של אפס כי לא יהי' בך אביון, הם ימות המשיח ופליגי דשמואל (עיין שבת קנ"א ב', זהר ח"ג קכ"ה א': דמסטרייהו דוקא לית כו' משא"כ אינון דטעמין מאילנא דחיי).

והרי מתקרב יום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אשר מסר נפשו להרבות מספר אלו הטועמים מאילנא דחיי וצדיקא בתר דאתפטר אשתכח בכולהו עלמין יתיר מבחיוהי.

בכבוד ובברכת הצלחה בעבודתו בקדש ולרוב נחת מכל יו"ח שיחיו לאריוש"ט.
