To the administration of the Lubavitch Yeshivah of Montreal,

I greet you and bless you,

Rav Chaim Dov Ber Ginsburg of Vancouver, Canada, confides to us in his letter, among other things, the following facts:

"Upon arriving in Vancouver, I met there a refugee who resides there, a young man who is called ... and comes from Vienna, capital of Austria. Because of the war, he was confined in a camp, with other refugees, in Quebec, Canada. For some months, he has been released, through the intervention of one of his relatives, who lives in Vancouver.

This young man fears Hashem sincerely and, in his native city, he frequented the house of study. He comes from a good family and his parents also fled because of the war. They reached America, but their son could not obtain authorization to join them there. Currently, his material situation is deplorable. His parents do not help him, for they themselves experience grave difficulties and he, in order to obtain a piece of bread, must content himself with any work.

During his free time, he attends school to acquire secular knowledge. And I am convinced that danger awaits him on this path. He could, Hashem forbid, adopt a free behavior, like all the young people of Vancouver, who reject everything and distance themselves from the spirit of Judaism.

I have therefore tried with all my strength to save this Jewish soul. I explained to this young man that it would be good for him to go to the Lubavitch Yeshivah of Montreal. My words convinced him and he gave me his agreement. In fact, his upright intellect and his good nature make him fit to enter the Yeshivah and to know elevation there, until reaching true greatness.

I would therefore be obliged to you if you would kindly intervene with the administration of the Lubavitch Yeshivah of Montreal so that it accepts him as a student. If I obtain a positive response on this matter, I will do everything necessary to send him, as soon as possible, to the Yeshivah."

You will no doubt look into his situation as soon as possible and let me know your decision in this matter [1].

הרב חיים דובער שי' גינזבורג מוואנקאווער ב. ק. במכתבו אלינו בתוך שאר הדברים כותב כדברים האלה:

בבואי לונקובר מצאתי ראיתי פליט אחד המתגורר פה בחור צעיר.. שמו. מבואו מעיר ווין בירת אוסטרי' ולרגלי המלחמה נלקח הוא יחד עם יתר הפליטים כשבויי מלחמה במאסר - קעמפ - בקנדה בעיר קוויבק. וזה חדשים כמה אשר יצא לחירות משם בהשתדלות קרובו הדר פה בונקובר. והנה הבחור הזה הוא י"א באמת והי' מתופשי ביהמ"ד בעיר מולדתו הנ"ל והוא ממשפחה מיוחסת הוריו ג"כ ברחו לנפשם מפחד חרב האויב, והצליחו בדרכם לבוא לאמריקה, אולם בנם אין לו רשות כניסה לבוא להתם.

כעת מצבו החומרי של הבחור הזה הוא בפה רעוע למדי. עזרה מהוריו אין לו, יען שגם הם נמצאים במצב דחוק, והוא, כדי למצוא מקור משען לחם, נאלץ למסור עצמו לכל עבודה. ובשעות הפנויות שלו הוא עוסק בלמודים חצונים בבית אסכולה. והנני רואה בעין שסכנה צופי' לו פה, לבלתי יתפקר חלילה כיתר הצעירים בעיר ונקובר, אשר כל מגמתם היא להיות פורקי עול וריקנים מכל רוח יהדות. לזה נסיתי בכל כחי להציל מן הדליקה נפש ישראל זו, ודברתי על לבו כי מאושר יהי' באם יסע לישיבה עירה מאנטרעאל לישיבת תומכי תמימים. ודברי עשו רושם עליו, והוא מסכים לזה. ובאמת בשכלו היפה ובכל דרכו ומהותו הוא ראוי להיות נספח אל הישיבה, ולעלות מעלה עד כי גדול מאד. לכן במטותא מאת כמ"ע שיואל נא בטובו לפנות אל הנהלת הישיבה תו"ת במאנטרעאל שתסכים לספחהו אל הישיבה. ואם אשיג אני תשובה ראוי' ונכונה בזה, אז אמהר אני לעשות הכל, לשלוח אותו במוקדם האפשרי אל הישיבה!

בטח תתענינו בדבר בהקדם האפשרי , ותודיעו גם לנו מה שהחלטתם בזה.
