Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 24 Teves*, in which you ask for a blessing to ascend the steps that lead toward the house of Hashem*. At a propitious moment, I will mention your name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, in accordance with your request.

I am surprised that you do not describe your study program in your letter. Nor do you tell me what you are doing to fulfill the mitzvos* in the best manner. In fact, the Torah and the mitzvos are also steps — "a ladder planted in the earth whose top reaches the heavens." According to a well-known interpretation, our Sages say that this ladder, sulam*, corresponds to Sinai*, the two terms having the same numerical value. Furthermore, it is stated that: "the ladder is prayer."

It is quite evident that you must strengthen, to the fullest extent of your ability, the study of the revealed dimension of the Torah and of Chassidus*, the practice of the mitzvos in the best manner. For progress is always possible, as it is stated: "The scholars know no rest... They ascend from one stage to the next." And nothing can withstand determination.

You surely know the three daily studies that concern everyone, established by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. These consist of Chumash*, Tehillim*, Tanya*, and are well known. You will adopt them, at least from now on.

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ד טבת, בקשת ברכה לעלות בסולם העולה בית-אל, ובעת רצון יזכירוהו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע מתאים לבקשתו.

לפלא שאינו כותב במכתבו אודות סדר לימודו וענינו בהידור קיום המצות, שהרי התורה והמצוה הם הסולם עליו נאמר סולם מוצב ארצה וראשו מגיע השמימה וכדרז"ל הידועה סולם זה סיני (חושבנא דדין כחושבנא דדין) סולם דא צלותא.

ומובן ופשוט שעליו להוסיף ככל יכולתו הן בלימוד התורה בנגלה וחסידות והן בהידור קיום מצותי' אשר תמיד יש מקום לעלי' בזה וכמש"נ תלמידי חכמים אין להם מנוחה כו' ילכו מחיל אל חיל, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון.

בטח יודע משלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר

זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים ועכ"פ ישמור אותם מכאן ולהבא.
