To Mr. Damyel* (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter, in which you tell me that a small group of your students (see note 2) came to ask you to set aside a space for discussion during the general education courses that you give them.

Now, this request caused doubt to arise within you. For it proves that, according to your students, you have already found your path and you can therefore guide them on it, whereas according to you, you are still at the beginning of the process.

I was particularly pleased to receive this information, for, as you know — and practice proves it — it is indeed the other person who recognizes the qualities of a man more than what he can observe himself.

And, as is systematically the case, this principle is taken into account in the laws of our Torah, the Torah of life, according to which a person is not qualified to bear testimony about himself, whether that testimony would exonerate him or incriminate him.

Moreover, regarding the current situation, I also have good hope that, according to the well-known formulation, "spirit draws spirit and reveals spirit." In this case, the call of your students will arouse within you an increased desire to bring out your hidden strengths and, all the more so, your revealed strengths.

In this way, you will internalize your faith, and instead of it remaining superficial, it will become deep. Then it will be able to express itself with even more light and vitality. And you will embrace the Torah and the mitzvos* as a believer.

I have already written to you that you have an enviable lot. You have the merit of observing the fruit of your effort. And you also see your reward, since you are increasingly ready to integrate the Torah and the mitzvos — in general, and Chassidus* in particular.

To someone like you, it is surely unnecessary to emphasize that every positive action accomplished upon the young and upon youth is multiplied many times over, in the form of many fruits, in the most literal sense — when they build a Jewish home and, in turn, have children. Furthermore, this positive action also develops within themselves and within their disciples.

With my respects and my blessing for success in all of this,
