Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of the eve of Shabbos*, in which you inform me of the proposal made to you to be the spiritual guide of a community. And you describe the experience you have accumulated in this regard.

It seems to me that this function is not suitable for you. Indeed, its essential point is strong obedience, in the most literal sense. With the appropriate reflection, you will find the means to use your true abilities in the field of Chabad* education.

May Hashem grant that you meet with success.

No doubt preparations are being made, in the appropriate manner, for the day of the hilula* (see note 1), which is approaching. Moreover, this year it will be a Shabbos, and indeed that of the crossing of the Sea (see note 2). And one finds, on this subject, two explanations — one from the Zohar* and the other from the Arizal* — both of which are correct. Various Chassidic texts cite them.

And you know the saying of the Alter Rebbe*, that "one must live with the times" — that is, with the content of the weekly Torah portion.

במענה על מכתבו מעש"ק, בו כותב אודות ההצעה להיות משפיע ב... ומתאר הנסיון שלו בתפקידו זה.

וכפי הנראה אין התפקיד מתאים בשבילו, והרי שם העיקר הוא חוזק המשמעת כפשוטה, ובטח בהתבוננות הראוי' יוכל לנצל כשרונותיו האמיתים בחינוך חב"ד, ויה"ר שיהי' בהצלחה.

בטח מתכוננים באופן המתאים ליום ההילולא הבע"ל, ובפרט שבשנה זו חל ביום הש"ק ושבת דקרי"ס אשר שני הפירושים בזה דהזהר והאריז"ל אמיתים, וכמבואר בדא"ח בכ"מ וידוע פתגם רבנו הזקן, מ'דארף לעבען מיט דער צייט שפירושו בתוכן הסדרה של השבוע.
