To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of 18 Teves and I read with pleasure that despite the difficulties (see note 2), you participated this year as well in the preparation of the Chassidic farbrengen* of Yud-Tes Kislev* (see note 3), the date of our redemption and the liberation of our souls.

These preparations seem limited to the material aspect of the gathering. Nevertheless, one can observe in practice that they also have an impact on its spirituality. Our Sages note that "sharing a meal brings people closer," and this statement must be interpreted in the most literal sense.

Granted, our masters have rejected the excesses of the table — gluttony and greed. This is by no means the case, however, for a meal shared in accordance with the Torah, in a pleasant and Chassidic manner.

Unfortunately, according to the information I had received previously, and your letter seems to confirm this, no effort was made to have as many guests as possible, in quantity and in quality. And yet, this day is propitious. The hearts of Jews are awakened on it for Chassidus* and for everything related to it, especially for those who have a Chassidic ancestry.

May Hashem grant that at least for the upcoming propitious dates, efforts be made in this direction, in the appropriate manner, and that there be considerable success — all the more so since it concerns a Chassidic farbrengen taking place at Kfar Chabad*, where "Hashem commanded the blessing, for eternity."

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מי"ח טבת, ונעם לי לקרות בו אשר למרות הקישוים השתתף גם השנה בהכנת התועדות י"ט כסלו גאולתנו ופדות נפשנו, וכבר ידוע שהנ"ל אף שלכאורה הוא גשמיות דההתועדות רואים בפועל ובמוחש שפועל ונוגע גם להרוחנית והרי אמרו רז"ל גדולה לגימה שמקרבת אין יוצא מידי פשוטו, ואף שהרחיקו ביותר רבותינו נשיאינו ענין לגימה יתירה הנקרא בלשון העולם שכרות והוללות, אבל לגימה בדרך התורה ובדרכי נועם החסידות אדרבה ואדרבה, ועקא שע"פ הידיעה שקבלתי מכבר וגם ממכתבו ניכר כן, לא השתדלו כדבעי שיהי' מספר האורחים בכמות ובאיכות כפי האפשרי והרי היום יום סגולה הוא, ולב ישראל ובפרט דמגזע אנ"ש, ער ביותר אז לתורת החסידות ולעניני החסידות, ויה"ר שעכ"פ לימי סגולה הבע"ל ישתדלו בהנ"ל ככל הדרוש והשי"ת יתן הצלחה מופלגה בזה, וביחוד שהרי המדובר אודות התועדות בכפר חב"ד אשר שם צוה ה' את הברכה חיים עד העולם.
