To the young man Shimon (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 12 Teves. I am surprised that you do not refer to the Chassidic farbrengen* in which you participated, as I learned indirectly.

You ask me about the Shema Yisrael* of bedtime, at the conclusion of Shabbos* (see note 2). Of course, a distinction must be made. If it is recited before midnight, one does not say Tachanun*, in accordance with the Shaarei Tefillah*, chapter 300. If it is recited after midnight, one does indeed recite Tachanun, with all that is associated with it (see note 3), within this prayer.

במענה על מכתבו מי"ב טבת, ולפלא שאינו מזכיר ע"ד ההתועדות שהשתתף בה כפי שהודיעוני מהצד.

ובשאלתו בק"ש שעל המטה במוצש"ק, מובן שמחולק בזה בין קודם חצות שאין אומרים תחנון (שע"ת סי' ש) לאחר חצות שאומרים תחנון, וגם הענינים הקשורים בזה בק"ש שעל המטה, וראה גם כן לוח היום יום עמוד לב.
