Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter of 14 Teves.
You ask me about the permissibility of shaving the beard (see note 1). You will consult the Responsa of the Tzemach Tzedek*, Yoreh Deah* section, chapter 93, which provide a lengthy explanation on this subject, as well as the responsa cited by the Darkei Teshuvah* on Yoreh Deah, chapter 181, from paragraph 16 onward.
The question you pose regarding the passage of Gemara* that is the subject of your study has been forwarded to the department that responds to such inquiries (see note 2).
You are surely aware of the three daily studies that pertain to everyone, established by my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, of blessed memory. These consist of Chumash*, Tehillim* and Tanya*. You will observe them, at least from now on.

במ"ש אודות שאלת גילוח הזקן, עיין שו"ת לאדמו"ר הצמח צדק חלק יו"ד סי' צ"ג בארוכה מה שכותב בזה וכן בשו"ת המסומנים בדרכי תשובה ליו"ד סי' קפ"א ס"ק ט"ז ואילך. וגודל הענין נוסף על הנ"ל נתבאר ג"כ בפירוש הצמח צדק על הכתוב והוא רחום יכפר עון, נדפס בתהלים אהלי יוסף יצחק השלם עמוד תרכו.
בשאלתו בסוגיא שלומד, נמסרה למחלקה העונה על שאלות כאלו.
בטח יודע משלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, בחומש תהלים ותניא וישמור אותם עכ"פ מכאן ולהבא.
