Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 14 Teves. I read with pleasure that you have met two young men, influential in their surroundings, who wish you to teach them Chassidus*. Of course, the concerns you express in your letter (see note 2) have no basis.

I am even surprised that you are in doubt on this matter. Do our Sages not emphasize the importance of separating the good grain from the chaff? And these young men give you the opportunity to do so. Through their intermediary, the words of encouragement of the luminary of the Torah (see note 3) will reach their students and their friends. This is self-evident.

As you know, the inner teaching of the Torah is described as oil. Moreover, the halachah* rules that "oil permeates everything," by mere contact. You must understand the significance of this metaphor.

May Hashem grant, not only that you accede to their request, but moreover, that you seek out such opportunities. Hashem will grant you success in this as well.

It would be good to begin the teaching you give them with the second or third part of the holy Tanya*, all the more so since they themselves desire this. Subsequently, you will teach them the Kuntres U'Maayan* (see note 4) and the Derech Mitzvosecha* of the Tzemach Tzedek*.

במענה על מכתבו מי"ד טבת. נעם לי לקרות בו אשר אנה ה' לידו שני אברכים בעלי השפעה בסביבתם הרוצים שילמוד עמהם תורת החסידות דא"ח, ומובן שאין כל מקום להחששות בזה שכותב במכתבו, ותמיהני גם על הספק, והרי הפליגו רז"ל בהענין דלהוציא יקר מזולל וע"י אברכים הנ"ל ניתנה לו אפשריות זו, כי על ידם יגיעו דברי ההתעוררות של המאור שבתורה להמושפעים ולהחברים שלהם וק"ל, והרי ידוע שפנימיות התורה נקראת בשם שמן והלכה פסוקה אשר שמן מפעפע בכל מקום ובלבד שיגע מקצתו בשמן והנמשל מובן. ויה"ר שלא לבד שיסכים לבקשתם אלא שגם יחפש אחרי ענינים כאלו והשי"ת יצליחו גם בזה. ומהנכון שיתחיל הלימוד עמהם מחלק ב' וג' דספר התניא קדישא ובפרט שלבם חפץ בזה ואחרי כן קונטרס ומעין, בס' דרך מצותיך לאדמו"ר הצ"צ וכו' ואחכה לבשו"ט.
