To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I read with pleasure in your letter that you have formed a study group and that this young man is part of it. Perhaps it is possible to attract participants, in particular, by concluding each study session with questions and answers.

I specify clearly: questions, and not objections, which very often are merely a means of expressing opposition (see note 2). This is self-evident. But perhaps, in order not to reach that point, it is preferable to avoid questions as well. And, to attract these people, you will propose that, from time to time, one of them deliver the class in your place — of course, following the requisite preparation.

Indeed, every person, by nature, seeks to distinguish himself, and as you know, our Sages introduced various practices in order to engage the attention of their students.

With my blessing to convey good tidings of all this,

...נעם לי לקרות במכתבו ע"ד ארגון הקבוצה וביחוד המשיך בזה את האברך... שי' ואפשר יש מקום להמשיך את כל המשתתפים הנ"ל ביחוד ע"י שיערכו מעין שו"ת לאחרי הלימוד, ומדגיש הנני שאלה לא קשיא כי קושיא עיקרה לפעמים תכופות מרצון ע"מ לקנטר, וק"ל. ואולי רצוי יותר בכדי שלא לגרום להנ"ל להשתמט גם מאופן של שאלה, והמשכתם בתוך הענינים יותר של כל הנ"ל יהי' עי"ז שיציע להם שאחת לאיזה פעמים ילמוד אחד מהם במקומו, כמובן ע"י הכנה מקודם, והרי בטבעו של אדם וועלין אויספיינען זיך וכידוע כ"פ בחז"ל שעשו ענינים לחדד את התלמידים...
