To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,
Rav Yosef (see note 1),
Greetings and blessings,
I have had the pleasure of receiving news of you through the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, full of eagerness, Rav Dov Baumgarten (see note 2).
As you request, I will mention your name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, of blessed memory, in accordance with the content of your letter (see note 3). May Hashem grant that you convey good tidings to me regarding this matter.
You write that you currently teach mechanics to your students. As you know, our Torah* rules that everything pertaining to a person must be utilized for the service of the Creator. The same therefore applies to the influence you exert upon these students. You must take advantage of it to strengthen them in everything concerning Yiddishkeit*, Torah and mitzvos*.
It must be explained to them that the trade they are learning is merely an instrument that will enable them to study Torah and practice the mitzvos* with greater serenity (see note 4).
By instilling fear of Heaven (yiras Shamayim*) in your students, you will multiply the blessings of the One Who gives the Torah, in all your needs.

ובמה שכותב שכעת הוא מורה לתלמידים במלאכת מעכאניקא, ידוע פסק דין תורתנו בכל עניני האדם לנצלם לעבודת הבורא, ולכן גם השפעתו על תלמידיו צריך להשתמש בה לחזקם לעניני יהדות תורה ומצותי' ולהסבירם שאותה המלאכה הם לומדים אותה אינה אלא אמצעי בכדי שיוכלו ללמוד תורה ולקיים מצותי' מתוך מנוחה יותר, ועל ידי השפעה ביראת שמים על התלמידים יתוסף בברכות נותן התורה בהמצטרך לו.
