To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Levi Yitzchak (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

After a particularly long interruption, I have received your letter, in which you briefly describe your participation in the activities of the luminous day of Yud-Tes Kislev* (see note 2), the date of our redemption and the liberation of our souls.

May Hashem grant that this be a good beginning for expanded activities, both quantitatively and qualitatively. In this way, your desire to write me these joyful tidings, satisfying to the soul, will also be strengthened. By conveying them to me, you will furthermore fulfill the mitzvah* of: "Love your fellow as yourself."

May Hashem grant that you not content yourself with all of this. You will persuade all those who receive your influence to adopt the same conduct, as indicated by the days of Chanukah* which have just concluded. Indeed, one must then add, each day, a candle, a light emanating from pure oil, "from sunset," in the expression of the Midrash* Shemos Rabbah*, chapter 15, paragraph 6, "at the door of his house, toward the outside."

בפעולות יום הבהיר י"ט כסלו גאולתנו ופדות נשפנו, ויהי רצון שתהי' זה התחלה טובה לפעולות מורחבות הן בכמות והן באיכות ובמילא יתרבה ג"כ הרצון לכתוב שהידיעות אלו משמחים ומענגים את הנפש ומקיימים בכתיבה המצוה דואהבת לרעך כמוך, ויהי רצון שלא יסתפק בזה אלא ישפיע על כל אלה שיד השפעתו מגעת שגם הם יתנהגו כהנ"ל וכהוראת ימי חנוכה דאזלינן מנייהו שמוסיף והולך מיום ליום בנר ואור הבא משמן טהור משתשקע החמה (שמ"ר טו, ו) ועל פתח ביתו מבחוץ.
