To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Chaim (see note 1),

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of 4 Teves and I am surprised that you say nothing about the Chassidic farbrengen* of Yud-Tes Kislev* (see note 2). There was surely one for Chanukah* as well. I hope that the opportunity was taken to strengthen and develop the Chabad* institutions in your city. Please also let me know how those whom you previously mentioned regarding their health issues are doing.

May Hashem grant that in all of this and in your personal matters, you convey good tidings, of visible and tangible good.

It was recalled at a farbrengen* (see note 3) that in Teves*, as our Sages state (see note 4), "contact between bodies provides pleasure" (see note 5). And our Sages also say that Achashverosh*, of whom the Megillah* speaks, alludes to the Holy One, blessed be He, "Who possesses the end and the beginning" (see note 6). Thus, the "Body" — the Essence of Hashem — is revealed and takes pleasure in contact with the "body" of man, here below.

In the World to Come (Olam HaBa*), the quality of the body will be established and the soul (neshamah*) will receive its vitality from it, as it is said: "The woman will encircle the man." There is indeed visible and tangible good there, in the most literal sense, which the body understands and feels.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מד' טבת, ולפלא שאינו מזכיר ע"ד ההתועדות די"ט כסלו ובטח היו התועדות גם בימי חנוכה, ותקותי שניצלו אותם גם לחיזוק והתפתחות מוסדות חב"ד אשר במחנם הט', וכן בטח יודיע ממצב בריאותם של אלו שכתב אודותם מכבר...

ויה"ר שבכל האמור וגם בעניניו הפרטים יבשר טוב בטוב הנראה והנגלה. וע"ד הנדבר באיזה מההתועדות במרז"ל בהנוגע לחדש טבת שהוא חדש שהגוף נהנה מן הגוף שעפ"י מרז"ל אחשורוש שבמגילה זהו הקב"ה שאחרית וראשית שלו, פי' שהגוף ועצם ומהות דלמעלה נהנה כביכול מן הגוף דלמטה וכהיעוד דלע"ל שתתגלה מעלת הגוף עד שגם הנשמה תקבל חיותה ע"י הגוף, וכמ"ש נקבה תסובב גבר וה"ז הענין דטוב הנראה והנגלה כפשוטו שגם הגוף מבינו ומרגישו.
